MUM, 21, HER 5-YEAR-OLD SON AND BOYFRIEND KILLED AFTER LANDSLIDE BURIED THEIR HOME WHILE THEY SLEPT

A devastating storm turned a family home into a scene of tragedy after a landslide swept through a house in southern Brazil, killing a young mother, her five-year-old son and her boyfriend.

A five-year-old boy, his young mother and her partner have lost their lives after a powerful landslide buried their home during severe storms in southern Brazil.

The victims were identified as Vinicius Lima, 5, his mother Jaqueline Lima, 21, and her boyfriend, Kauan da Silva, 21.

According to reports, the three were sleeping in the same bed when the disaster struck.

The tragedy unfolded in the Ronda neighbourhood of Ponta Grossa, Paraná, as the region was battered by extreme weather.

THE LANDSLIDE STRUCK WITHOUT WARNING

Emergency crews were called to the property after a landslide tore into the family home at around 8:44 a.m. on Thursday.

The force of the mud and debris brought down part of the structure, including a wall and sections of the roof.

With the building at risk of further collapse, firefighters first worked to stabilize the property before attempting to enter.

A major search-and-rescue operation was launched as emergency workers desperately searched through the debris.

But beneath the rubble, rescuers found the three members of the family.

NOTHING COULD BE DONE

Despite the efforts of emergency crews to reach them and attempts to revive them, all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

The devastating discovery left the local community mourning three lives lost in a matter of moments.

Jaqueline was just 21 years old.

Her son Vinicius was only five.

Kauan, Jaqueline’s partner, was also 21.

The fact that the family had been together inside the home when the landslide struck has made the tragedy even more heartbreaking.

A REGION HIT BY SEVERE WEATHER

The disaster occurred as Paraná was experiencing powerful storms, including heavy rain, flooding and flash floods across several municipalities.

Authorities also confirmed two tornadoes in the state within roughly 24 hours — one near Francisco Alves and another in the Boa Vista area of Espigão Alto do Iguaçu.

At the height of the storms, more than 22,000 properties were reportedly left without electricity, according to power company Copel.

The extreme weather has once again highlighted the dangers faced by communities during periods of torrential rain, particularly in densely built-up areas where water can struggle to drain away.

A FAMILY REMEMBERED

For the community of Ponta Grossa, the loss is more than another statistic from a devastating storm.

It is the loss of a young mother, a little boy who had barely begun his life and a young man who was only 21.

Their final moments came together inside the home they shared.
