LATEST COURT REPORT REVEALS THE ROLE OF A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN THE SHEFFIELD BABY S CASE — BUT MANY QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED

A CASE THAT BEGAN WITH AN EARLY-MORNING CALL

The investigation began on Sunday, August 30, when South Yorkshire Police were called to a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield following concerns about the welfare of a newborn baby.

Emergency responders attended the scene, but despite efforts by police officers and paramedics, the baby was pronounced dead.

The infant was later identified in court only as Baby S.

A post-mortem examination found that she died from stab wounds. Prosecutors told the court that the newborn had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

FIVE PEOPLE NOW FACE CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS

Four adults have been charged with Baby S’s murder.

They are Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr., 19, Peter Horvath Sr., 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.

All four also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.

Prosecutors allege that steps were taken to conceal what had happened to the infant. Court reports have specifically stated that the adult defendants are accused of cleaning the scene and taking steps to conceal the killing.

A fifth defendant is a 15-year-old girl.

Unlike the four adults, she has not been charged with murder.

Instead, she faces a charge of perverting the course of justice.

WHY HER IDENTITY IS BEING KEPT SECRET

Because she is only 15, the teenager cannot legally be named.

She appeared in court separately from the adult defendants and was remanded into youth custody.

Reports from the hearing said the teenager was visibly distressed and sobbed while representations were made about her detention.

That distinction is important.

While the four adults face allegations directly connected to Baby S’s death, the teenager is currently facing a separate charge relating to the course of justice.

Prosecutors told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that Baby S was found in an outbuilding at a property on Holywell Heights.

The baby’s body was found on top of a washing machine.

Reports also stated that she had been wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag.

Those details have formed part of the prosecution case, but the allegations have not yet been tested at trial.

FOUR ADULTS WILL FACE TRIAL

The four adults have been remanded in custody while the case proceeds through the courts.

A trial has been scheduled for April 12, 2027, and is expected to last between six and seven weeks.

The next hearing is scheduled for October 2.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested during the investigation on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.

MANY QUESTIONS ARE STILL UNANSWERED

The charge against the 15-year-old has inevitably raised questions about her alleged role in what happened.

But at this stage, publicly available court reporting does not establish that she carried out the acts suggested by some social-media posts.
