PETER KAY’S FINAL GOODBYE — COMEDY LEGEND CONFIRMS “THESE REALLY ARE THE LAST DATES” AS EVERY PENNY OF PROFIT GOES TO 12 CANCER CHARITIES

After more than four years of sold-out performances, Peter Kay has confirmed that his long-running Better Late Than Never tour really is coming to an end — and he is using his final shows to raise money for cancer charities.

The comedy legend made the emotional announcement while speaking to Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 in November 2025, admitting that although he still loves performing, he believes audiences are finally seeing the end of his live touring career.

Asked whether these could really be his final live shows, Kay insisted he was not simply creating another publicity moment.

“I honestly, I’m not milking it, I do love it but you’ve got to have summat to say!” he explained.

He then made his position clear, joking that he would not follow the example of performers who have repeatedly announced retirement.

“These really are the last dates,” Kay said.

A FINAL TOUR WITH A BIGGER PURPOSE

Kay’s final arena run was announced as a major charity effort, with all profits from the performances going to 12 cancer charities.

Kay explained that cancer has affected so many families that he wanted his final performances to have a purpose beyond entertainment.

“It’s been the greatest privilege of my life to perform for audiences up and down the country,” he said, adding that every penny of profit from the final shows would go toward helping fight cancer and supporting people affected by it.

THE FINAL ARENA DATES

The 2026 arena run took Peter Kay to venues across the UK and Ireland, including Newcastle, Nottingham, Glasgow, Dublin, Birmingham, Belfast, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, London and Manchester.

The scheduled final arena performance was at Manchester’s AO Arena on August 8, 2026.

The tour had already become one of the biggest comedy runs in British touring history, stretching across several years and repeatedly adding dates because of demand.

But even after those arena shows, Kay was not quite ready to stop raising money.

THEN CAME ONE MORE GOODBYE

In July 2026, Kay announced another set of charity performances in Cardiff, Hull, Brighton and Blackpool, describing them as the final performances of the record-breaking tour.

The additional shows were scheduled for autumn 2026, with profits going to three charities: The Lily Foundation, Maggie’s and the Be More Laura Foundation, supporting mitochondrial disease care, cancer care and brain-cancer research.

Kay said the four-year tour had been incredible and that he had “absolutely loved it.”

His reason for adding the extra shows was simple: if a few more performances could raise money for charities that were often overlooked or underfunded, he felt it was worth doing.

FROM COMEDY ICON TO CHARITY CAMPAIGNER

For Kay, the final chapter of his touring career is therefore not simply about walking away from the stage.

It is also about giving something back.

Now, as the curtain finally approaches on his touring career, he is leaving the stage with a message that goes far beyond comedy:
