THE VOICE UK INTRODUCES SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT — FANS FACE A MAJOR CHANGE

The Voice UK is heading into a dramatic new era, with bosses introducing a major change to the Blind Auditions following the departure of legendary coach Sir Tom Jones.

The upcoming series will reportedly feature a brand-new “Lockdown Button”, replacing the recently introduced Rewind Button and changing what happens when a contestant receives the coveted four-chair turn.

WHAT IS THE NEW “LOCKDOWN” BUTTON?

Under the reported new format, when all four coaches turn their chairs for a singer, the coaches will have the power to use the Lockdown Button to immediately secure that contestant for their team.

That means the singer could lose the traditional opportunity to listen to the coaches’ pitches and personally decide which team they want to join.

Instead, the decision could be taken out of the contestant’s hands if one of the coaches activates the new feature.

The change replaces the Rewind Button, which will reportedly be dropped from the upcoming series.

The twist could significantly change one of the most anticipated moments of the Blind Auditions, particularly when all four red chairs turn.

A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VOICE UK

The “Lockdown” change comes as The Voice UK prepares for one of its biggest line-up changes in years.

ITV has officially confirmed that Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts in Series 15, joining returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

The presenting team is also changing.

Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over hosting duties, replacing longtime presenter Emma Willis.

McFly stars Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher are also leaving the coaching panel.

Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

TOM JONES’ SHOCK DEPARTURE

The format overhaul follows the highly publicised departure of Sir Tom Jones, who had been one of the show’s most recognisable coaches since its launch in 2012.

Jones publicly said he did not want to leave the programme and claimed that ITV had made the decision to remove him as a full-time coach.

He also said he had been offered a much-reduced role on the new series but was unhappy with the arrangement.

ITV, meanwhile, thanked Jones for his years on the programme, describing him as an “irreplaceable” part of The Voice UK and acknowledging the memorable moments he had given the show and its contestants.

A spokesperson also said that while Jones would no longer be a full-time coach, ITV remained in discussions with him and his team about possible involvement in the next series.

 THE BIG QUESTION FOR FANS

With a new coaching panel, new hosts and now a reported new audition mechanism, The Voice UK is set to look very different when Series 15 arrives.

The biggest question may be whether viewers will embrace a system in which a four-chair-turn contestant could have their team decided for them — rather than making the final choice themselves.

For now, the reported Lockdown Button adds another layer of uncertainty to the show’s most exciting auditions.

And with Tom Jones no longer occupying his familiar red chair, fans will be watching closely to see whether this new era can recreate the same magic — or completely change the feel of The Voice UK.
