🚨 WADE WILSON’S DEATH SENTENCE IS STILL NOT THE END — HIS LEGAL FIGHT HAS TAKEN ANOTHER TURN

Two women were killed.

A Florida jury convicted Wade Wilson of both murders.

A judge sentenced him to death.

But more than two years after that sentence, the case is still far from finished.

And the next battle may reach the highest court in the country.

THE DEATH SENTENCE WAS NEVER THE FINAL CHAPTER

Wade Steven Wilson was convicted in June 2024 of murdering Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in separate attacks in Cape Coral in October 2019.

On August 27, 2024, a judge sentenced Wilson to death for both killings.

The jury had recommended death by votes of 9–3 for Melton and 10–2 for Ruiz.

But Wilson’s defense did not stop there.

The attorneys challenged the legality of the death sentences themselves.

THE LAW AT THE CENTER OF THE APPEAL

Florida changed its capital-sentencing law in 2023, allowing a death recommendation without a unanimous jury vote.

Wilson’s crimes occurred in 2019 — before that change.

His attorneys argued that applying the newer sentencing rule to his case raised constitutional and retroactivity questions.

That issue eventually reached the Florida Supreme Court.

On February 5, 2026, Wilson’s attorney appeared before the court and said he would preserve the constitutional arguments for possible review by the U.S. Supreme Court, rather than reargue issues the Florida court had already addressed in earlier decisions.

The Florida Supreme Court’s case file remains open under SC2024-1345.

SO WHEN WILL WADE WILSON BE EXECUTED?

That is the part many people following the case may misunderstand.

There is currently no execution date for Wilson.

He remains incarcerated on Florida’s death row at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford.

His automatic appeal is still part of the capital case process, and further state or federal proceedings may follow.

So despite the two death sentences, there is no countdown clock to an execution right now.

BUT THE CASE HAS RETURNED TO THE SPOTLIGHT

Wilson’s name has continued to attract national attention well beyond the courtroom.

In 2026, his case became the subject of Paramount+’s documentary “Handsome Devil: Charming Killer.”

Netflix also featured the case in an episode of Worst Ex Ever, bringing the 2019 murders and Wilson’s subsequent death sentences to a new audience.

At the same time, Wilson has developed an unusual online following, with women sending messages and letters connected to the case.

That phenomenon has become another part of the story — one that exists alongside the much more consequential legal battle over his death sentences.

TWO VICTIMS. TWO DEATH SENTENCES. ONE UNFINISHED APPEAL.

For the families of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz, the case began with two lives being taken in October 2019.

For Wilson, it resulted in two first-degree murder convictions and two death sentences.

But legally, the story has not reached its final page.

The question now is not whether Wilson was sentenced to death.

He was.

The question is whether those death sentences will ultimately survive the appeals still ahead.

And for now, Florida has set no execution date.

The case is still moving through the courts.
