BEVERLEY CALLARD SHARES WORRYING HEALTH UPDATE AMID BREAST CANCER BATTLE: ‘IT’S NOT GREAT NEWS’

Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Beverley Callard has revealed that doctors found severe inflammation in her upper stomach after she underwent further tests for persistent nausea. The actress, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, is now waiting for biopsy results that will be reviewed by her surgeon and oncologist.

Beverley Callard is facing another round of medical uncertainty after doctors discovered significant inflammation in her upper stomach during recent hospital tests.

The 69-year-old actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, shared the update with fans in an emotional video posted to Instagram.

Callard said she had been experiencing persistent nausea and was referred to a stomach specialist for further investigation.

What began as an endoscopy was expanded to include a gastroscopy, and doctors took several biopsies after finding that the upper portion of her stomach was severely inflamed.

“The oesophagus is completely clear, but apparently my upper stomach is really, badly inflamed,” Callard explained in the video.

Callard said doctors collected multiple tissue samples to try to determine what was causing the inflammation.

She has not yet received all of the results.

According to Callard, biopsy results can sometimes take as long as 12 or 13 weeks, although her medical team expects her particular results to be available much sooner.

She said the findings were expected to be sent to both her surgeon and oncologist within approximately a week, after which she hopes to have a clearer picture of what is happening.

The actress emphasized that she does not yet have a confirmed explanation for the inflammation.

That distinction is important because the latest stomach findings have not been publicly identified as cancer or confirmed as a spread of her breast cancer. The biopsies are being used to determine the underlying cause.

Callard described the news as worrying, but said she was also relieved to finally have an explanation for the nausea that had been affecting her.

“Obviously it’s not great news, but at least I know now I’m not just a wuss, because the nausea is driving me mad,” she said.

She added that doctors believed the inflammation could explain the persistent nausea she had been experiencing.

‘I’m OK, I’m a bit fed up’

During the video, Callard briefly lost her train of thought while describing her recent medical appointments.

She joked that she felt “brain dead” and apologized to her followers before continuing with the update.

Despite her frustration, she praised the hospital staff who have been caring for her.

Callard ended the update by reassuring fans that she was okay, although she admitted she was tired of dealing with ongoing medical appointments.

“So I’m OK, I’m a bit fed up about it,” she said, adding that she simply wanted to get back to “real life” while waiting for more answers.

Callard revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in February

The latest stomach investigation comes several months after Callard publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In February, the actress announced her diagnosis while appearing on Ireland’s The Late Late Show.

At the time, she described the cancer as being in its early stages and said she would undergo surgery followed by radiotherapy.

Callard had been preparing to work on the Irish soap Fair City when she received the diagnosis and was told to return to the UK for further medical treatment.

“I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said at the time, while emphasizing that she was feeling well and intended to continue working.

Surgery and lymph-node testing followed

As part of her treatment, Callard underwent surgery to remove the cancer.

Doctors also examined tissue from her lymph nodes. A sample containing cancer cells was sent to the United States for additional testing to determine how aggressive the cancer might be.

In May, Callard shared what she described as “absolutely great news” after receiving those results.

She said the cancer found in her lymph-node sample was at “low numbers,” which allowed her to proceed with radiotherapy.

Callard celebrated the news on Instagram and said she was relieved to be moving on to the next stage of treatment.

She completed 10 rounds of radiotherapy

In July, Callard announced another major milestone in her treatment.

She had completed her 10th and final radiotherapy session.

In an emotional video filmed by her husband, Jon McEwan, the actress said she felt relieved but exhausted by the experience.

“I’ve done it, I’ve just finished my last radiotherapy session,” she said.

Callard acknowledged that some cancer patients require considerably more treatment, but said she hoped the 10 sessions would be the end of her radiotherapy for now.

She was still scheduled for further medical appointments, including follow-up consultations with specialists and future mammograms.

Radiotherapy left her dealing with difficult side effects

The treatment also took a physical toll.

In August, Callard revealed that she had experienced significant side effects from radiotherapy, including nausea, exhaustion and severe skin irritation.

She described herself as being “quite badly burnt” but said she was coping and had managed to continue working.

At the time, she said she had not yet received her full prognosis and was due to see her oncologist again.

Callard has continued working on Fair City, where she plays Lily Patterson, despite the challenges of her treatment.

She has previously explained that keeping her mind occupied and learning lines for work helped her cope during a difficult period.

She continues to keep fans updated

Callard has been unusually open about her cancer journey, regularly sharing updates with followers on social media.

Her latest announcement once again gave fans a glimpse into the uncertainty that can accompany cancer treatment and follow-up testing.

For now, the actress is waiting for the results of the stomach biopsies and for her surgeon and oncologist to review them.

Those results will help determine what is causing the severe inflammation and what, if any, further treatment or investigation may be required.

While Callard described the latest development as “not great news,” there is currently no publicly confirmed diagnosis explaining the stomach inflammation and no confirmed public evidence that it represents a spread of her breast cancer.

For the moment, she remains focused on getting answers from her medical team and returning to everyday life.

“I just want to crack on with real life again,” Callard said in her latest update.
