BRIT DAD DIES IN CYPRUS ON ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY AS HEARTBROKEN FIANCÉE FACES WEDDING PLANS ALONE

A British father has died suddenly in Cyprus while celebrating an anniversary holiday with his fiancée — just as the couple were preparing to return home and look ahead to their wedding.

Paulo Brockway, 44, from Wales, became seriously ill on September 16, the day he and his fiancée, Kerry Debono, were due to fly back to the UK.

The couple had travelled to Cyprus to celebrate their three-year anniversary.

Instead of boarding their flight home, Paulo was taken to hospital.

He died the following day, September 17.

His sudden death has left Kerry, his son, mother, siblings and wider family devastated.

PAULO BECAME ILL ON THE DAY THEY WERE DUE TO FLY HOME

According to reports from Paulo’s family, he initially became unwell with severe stomach problems while in Cyprus.

Doctors initially believed he may have been suffering from food poisoning.

However, further medical examinations reportedly revealed that Paulo was suffering from pancreatitis, with his pancreas no longer functioning properly.

His condition then deteriorated.

He developed a serious infection and suffered two heart attacks before dying in hospital on September 17.

The circumstances have made the loss particularly devastating for his family because Paulo and Kerry had been looking forward to returning home together.

‘THEIR WHOLE WORLD WAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN’

Paulo’s sister Samantha Brockway said the family had been left in complete shock by his unexpected death.

She described him as a devoted father, loving fiancé, brother and son who still had many plans for the future.

Samantha said Paulo’s relationship with Kerry had transformed his life and that the family had never seen him happier.

The couple were reportedly planning to marry next year.

“He still had so much life left to live,” Samantha said in a family tribute reported by the Mirror.

She said Paulo loved his family, was particularly devoted to his 12-year-old son, and had become passionate about mountain climbing and outdoor adventures.

HIS LOVE OF MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

Over the final three years of his life, Paulo developed a strong passion for climbing mountains.

According to Kerry, he completed climbs to raise money for charity and enjoyed setting himself increasingly difficult challenges.

Each climb gave him another goal to work toward.

His fiancée remembered the activity as something that brought Paulo enormous happiness.

In her fundraising appeal, Kerry wrote that Paulo had become passionate about reaching the next, bigger mountain and using his climbs to help others.

KERRY: ‘I WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU FOREVER’

Kerry has described herself as Paulo’s “broken-hearted fiancée” following his death.

In a tribute shared through the family’s fundraising appeal, she wrote that Paulo became ill on the very day they were supposed to return home.

“He was just 44 years old,” she said, adding that she was devastated and would miss him terribly.

The couple had been together for three years and were reportedly preparing for their wedding.

Now, instead of planning their future together, Kerry is dealing with the practical and emotional consequences of his sudden death.

FAMILY RAISES MONEY TO BRING HIM HOME

Because Paulo did not have life insurance, his family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of bringing his body home from Cyprus and arranging his funeral.

The fundraiser says the funeral is expected to cost around £7,000, while Paulo’s body is expected to be repatriated to Cardiff within seven to 10 days.

The appeal was initially set at £3,000.

The amount raised has changed as donations have continued, so the fundraising total should be treated as a snapshot rather than a final figure.

Kerry has asked supporters to help in any way they can, saying every donation or share would mean a great deal to the family.

A FATHER REMEMBERED FOR HIS ADVENTUROUS SPIRIT

Paulo leaves behind his 12-year-old son, who has been described by the family as devastated by the loss of his father.

His mother, sisters and brother are also grieving.

His family remembers him not only as a father and fiancé, but as someone who loved being outdoors, challenging himself and helping other people through his charity climbs.

For Kerry, the holiday that was meant to celebrate three years of their relationship became an unimaginable farewell.

Paulo’s body is expected to be brought back to Wales, where his family can begin making arrangements for his funeral.
