WADE WILSON’S DEATH ROW FIGHT TAKES ANOTHER TURN — HERE’S WHERE THE ‘DEADPOOL KILLER’ CASE STANDS NOW

The Florida inmate remains on death row after his latest legal challenge was cut short — but his fight against the death sentence is not necessarily over.

Wade Wilson, the Florida man known online as the “Deadpool Killer,” remains on death row after the latest stage of his legal battle reached a dramatic turning point earlier this year.

Wilson was convicted of the 2019 murders of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Cape Coral, Florida. A judge sentenced him to death in August 2024.

But Wilson is not challenging his murder convictions in this appeal.

Instead, his legal team has been fighting the legality of his death sentences.

THE ARGUMENT BEHIND THE APPEAL

At the center of the case is a change to Florida’s death-penalty law.

Florida changed its sentencing rules in 2023, allowing a death recommendation when at least eight of 12 jurors support it, rather than requiring unanimity.

Wilson’s attorneys argued that applying the newer rule to his case raised constitutional concerns because the murders occurred in 2019, before the law changed.

His jury ultimately recommended death by the required majority, and the judge imposed two death sentences.

THE FEBRUARY COURTROOM TWIST

Wilson’s appeal reached the Florida Supreme Court on February 5, 2026.

But the hearing did not unfold as many expected.

His attorney, Michael Ufferman, acknowledged that the Florida Supreme Court had recently issued a ruling in another case addressing the same legal issues.

As a result, Ufferman stopped short of arguing the constitutional challenge at length rather than asking the court to reconsider an issue it had already addressed.

The Florida Supreme Court’s official docket confirms that Wilson’s death-penalty appeal remains an open case under SC2024-1345.

HIS LAWYER SAYS THE FIGHT ISN’T OVER

Although the February hearing was effectively cut short, Wilson’s attorney said the constitutional arguments had been preserved for possible review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

That does not mean the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear Wilson’s case.

It means his legal team intends to preserve the issue for a possible further appeal.

DOES WADE WILSON HAVE AN EXECUTION DATE?

No confirmed execution date has been set.

Wilson remains on Florida’s death row while the legal process continues. His case has also attracted renewed attention after being featured in Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever and other true-crime productions.

That renewed public attention has led many people to search for one question:

For now, there is no scheduled date.

His death sentences remain in place, but the case is still moving through the appellate process.

A CASE THAT CONTINUES TO DRAW NATIONAL ATTENTION

Wilson’s case has become one of Florida’s most closely followed death-penalty cases, not only because of the crimes for which he was convicted, but also because of the constitutional questions surrounding the way his death sentences were imposed.

For the families of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz, however, the legal battle represents another chapter in a case that began with the deaths of two women in October 2019.

For Wilson, the next major question is whether his remaining legal challenges can ultimately prevent the two death sentences from being carried out.

For now, the answer remains unresolved — and there is still no execution date.
