DAD-OF-THREE VANISHES FROM CRUISE SHIP DAYS BEFORE 15TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AS MASSIVE SEARCH IS SUSPENDED

A family anniversary trip turned into a heartbreaking nightmare after a 56-year-old California father disappeared overboard from a cruise ship while traveling with his wife and three young sons.

Thomas Gigler, 56, of Redlands, California, was aboard Carnival Panorama with his wife Michelle, 48, and their three sons, aged 9, 11 and 13, during a seven-night cruise to Mexico.

The family was just days away from celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary when Gigler went overboard while the ship was returning toward Long Beach, California.

CREW CCTV CONFIRMED HE WENT OVERBOARD

Carnival Cruise Line said the ship’s crew began search and investigation procedures after Gigler was reported missing.

Staff reviewed surveillance footage and notified both the U.S. and Mexican Coast Guards.

The footage confirmed that Gigler had gone overboard while Carnival Panorama was sailing from Puerto Vallarta toward Long Beach.

Passengers were reportedly asked to remain in their cabins while crew members carried out room-to-room accountability checks and searched the ship.

A passenger later described the atmosphere as confusing and deeply unsettling as people waited for updates about the missing man.

MORE THAN 1,700 SQUARE MILES SEARCHED

The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a large-scale international search after receiving the report.

Multiple Coast Guard aircraft searched from the air, while a Mexican naval vessel and six other vessels assisted with surface searches.

The search covered more than 1,707 square miles of the Pacific Ocean and continued for more than 41 hours.

Despite the extensive operation, Gigler was not located.

On September 22, the Coast Guard suspended the search, saying the decision was made after considering the available information and that the operation could resume if new information emerged.

FAMILY LEFT SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

Gigler’s family has been left struggling to understand what happened.

His sister, Wendy Dowden, told reporters that relatives were unable to explain why he went overboard.

Authorities and Carnival have not publicly established what led to the incident.

That uncertainty has made the family’s loss even harder to comprehend as they continue to wait for answers.

A TRIP THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CELEBRATION

The Carnival Panorama had departed Long Beach on September 13 for a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise.

The itinerary included stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta before the ship began its return journey to California.

Gigler had been traveling with his wife and their three children as the family prepared to mark their 15th wedding anniversary on September 23.

Instead, the family returned to California without him.

Passengers aboard the ship reportedly created a small memorial, leaving handwritten messages, prayers and other tributes for Gigler and his loved ones.

Carnival Cruise Line said it was supporting the family and expressed condolences following the tragedy.

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Although the Coast Guard search has been suspended, the case has not simply been closed.

The circumstances surrounding Gigler’s disappearance remain under investigation, and officials have not publicly provided a reason for why he went overboard.

For his wife and three sons, the unanswered questions remain.

What began as a family cruise celebrating nearly 15 years of marriage has instead become a desperate search for answers surrounding the disappearance of a husband and father.
