TOURIST PLUNGES TO HER DEATH AT WATERFALL AFTER LOSING BALANCE WHILE TAKING PHOTOS

A 48-year-old woman died after falling more than 10 metres from a waterfall in Thailand while taking photographs during a trip with a group of friends.

The tragic accident happened on September 18, 2026, at Kwang Tone Waterfall in Pha Taem National Park, in Ubon Ratchathani province.

The woman, identified as Wanwisa, was from Songkhla province and had travelled from Bangkok with 14 friends for the outing.

According to people who were with her, she had gone down toward the second tier of the waterfall to take photographs when she lost her footing and fell over the edge.

SHE WENT TO TAKE PHOTOS AT THE WATERFALL

Wanwisa and her friends were visiting Pha Taem National Park when the accident occurred.

The group had reportedly visited the area several times before and did not arrange for a park guide.

At around the afternoon of September 18, Wanwisa walked down toward the second level of Kwang Tone Waterfall to take photographs.

While she was there, she reportedly slipped and fell more than 10 metres to the level below.

Her friends alerted park officials, who contacted police and emergency responders.

RESCUERS FACED A DIFFICULT JOURNEY

The location of the accident presented an immediate challenge for rescuers.

Park staff and rescue volunteers had to travel approximately three kilometres along a forest trail to reach the waterfall.

The journey took more than two hours.

When rescuers eventually reached Wanwisa, they found her with no vital signs.

Emergency personnel immediately attempted CPR at the scene, but they were unable to revive her.

The difficult terrain also made removing her from the waterfall extremely challenging.

By the time rescuers carried her back to the road, it was already dark.

Her body was subsequently transported to the forensic unit at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani for examination.

FAMILY WAS CONTACTED AFTER THE TRAGEDY

Police contacted Wanwisa’s family following the accident.

Her relatives travelled to the area and later took her body for funeral rites.

Authorities did not indicate that the death involved suspicious circumstances. The available reports described the incident as a tragic accident at the waterfall.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers that can arise around steep waterfall terrain, particularly when visitors approach edges or slippery areas to take photographs.

A TRIP WITH FRIENDS ENDS IN TRAGEDY

What began as a trip with friends ended with the sudden death of a 48-year-old woman.

Wanwisa had been travelling as part of a group of 15 people, according to those who accompanied her.

Her final moments came while she was attempting to photograph the waterfall’s second tier.

Instead, a sudden loss of balance sent her over the edge.

Despite the difficult rescue effort and attempts to revive her, she could not be saved.

The tragedy has left her family and friends mourning a woman who had travelled to the national park for what was supposed to be an enjoyable day away.

Her death serves as a heartbreaking reminder that even familiar tourist destinations can become dangerous when visitors venture close to steep drops or unstable ground.
