4-YEAR-OLD GIRL RECOVERING AFTER BEING RUN OVER BY GOLF CART AT RUGBY TOURNAMENT

A 4-year-old girl is recovering after suffering life-threatening injuries when she was run over by a golf cart during a junior rugby tournament in Australia.

Kaleia Mu’a was attending the Prime Nines Tournament at Tugun Rugby League Club on Queensland’s Gold Coast with her family when the incident happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 27.

The accident also injured two other children and a woman in her 60s.

A TERRIFYING ACCIDENT

Kaleia suffered a fractured skull, multiple brain bleeds, internal bleeding and a broken leg, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched to support her family.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that several people had been struck by a golf cart.

The two other children, both boys, suffered leg injuries, while the older woman sustained minor soft-tissue injuries.

All four were taken to hospital.

Kaleia was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she was admitted to the Children’s Critical Care Unit.

HER CONDITION HAS STABILIZED

The little girl’s condition was described as critical following the accident.

But by Tuesday, Gold Coast Health confirmed that her condition had stabilized, providing a measure of relief to her family and supporters.

Her parents, Joe and Amber, have remained at their daughter’s side while she recovers.

A family friend, Jordan Akauola, said the parents’ entire focus was on Kaleia and keeping their family together during the difficult period.

Her brothers — Kingston, Kohen and Khobie — have also been supporting their sister.

Kaleia’s father later shared an emotional update about his daughter’s condition.

Joe said the most important message he wanted everyone to know was that his little girl was going to be okay.

He described the previous few days as the longest and most terrifying of his and Amber’s lives.

The family had been exhausted, he said, as their entire world had become focused on Kaleia’s recovery.

But despite everything she had been through, her father said his daughter continued to surprise him with her strength.

“She is a little fighter,” he wrote.

COMMUNITY RALLIES AROUND THE FAMILY

News of Kaleia’s injuries quickly brought support from the local sporting community.

A GoFundMe campaign was established to help Joe and Amber while they remain focused on their daughter’s recovery.

The campaign had raised more than $30,000 by Tuesday, according to Australian media reports.

The family is facing the practical challenges that come with an extended hospital stay, including time away from work, travel and other expenses while Kaleia undergoes treatment.

The Southport Tigers Rugby League Club, which the family is connected with, also appealed for support.

TOURNAMENT ORGANIZERS OFFER SUPPORT

The Prime Nines tournament organizers said they were thinking of Kaleia and her family following the incident.

The Queensland Rugby League confirmed that the tournament was not sanctioned by the state’s governing body.

Organizers said they remained in contact with the family and were offering their support.

The circumstances surrounding the golf-cart incident remain under investigation.
