One year has passed since four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote property in South Australia’s outback.

For his parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, the past 12 months have been filled with uncertainty, heartbreak and an unanswered question:

What happened to their little boy?

Gus was reported missing from Oak Park Station, near Yunta, on September 27, 2025.

Despite an enormous search operation involving police, emergency personnel, volunteers and Aboriginal trackers, no trace of the child has been found.

“WE BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING”

As the first anniversary approached, Gus’s parents made their first direct public appeal.

In an emotional video message, they described their son as a “beautiful, sweet and unique little boy” who loved music, listening to stories and playing in nature.

Josh said the family believed someone knew what had happened.

“We miss Gus more than we can describe,” he said.

“We are desperate to have him return home to us and we are desperate for answers.”

Jess said that during the year Gus had been missing, he should have celebrated his fifth birthday and watched his younger brother celebrate his first.

Instead, the family has continued living with the uncertainty of not knowing where he is.

$1 MILLION REWARD ANNOUNCED

South Australian authorities have now offered a reward of up to $1 million Australian dollars for information that leads to a conviction over Gus’s disappearance or to the location of his remains.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said the reward was intended to encourage anyone with meaningful information to finally come forward.

“Someone out there knows something,” police have said.

The investigation, known as Taskforce Horizon, has become one of the largest and most intensive missing-person investigations in South Australian history.

Police and other personnel have conducted extensive searches across the remote property and surrounding areas.

NEW “ANOMALIES” FOUND IN AERIAL IMAGES

There has also been a potentially significant development.

Investigators recently carried out a detailed manual review of aerial imagery collected during the search.

Detective Superintendent Fielke said investigators had identified “some anomalies” in the imagery.

The findings are now being reviewed to determine whether they could justify further searches at Oak Park Station.

Police have not publicly disclosed what the anomalies show, saying further details could compromise the investigation.

The discovery does not mean police have found Gus or established what happened to him.

But investigators say they remain determined to pursue every credible lead.

POLICE BELIEVE SOMEONE KNOWN TO GUS MAY HAVE INFORMATION

Police have previously said they do not believe Gus simply wandered away or was abducted by a stranger.

They have also said they believe someone known to the child may have information about his disappearance.

Authorities have previously confirmed that one of Gus’s grandparents remains a suspect in the investigation. No charges have been announced, and the family has said the grandparents have cooperated with investigators.

Police have urged the public not to rely on online speculation or unverified claims.

The investigation has been complicated by false information circulating online, including fabricated images and unsupported theories about what may have happened to Gus.
