A desperate overnight search for a missing four-year-old girl in Brazil ended in heartbreak after her body was discovered in a neighbor’s swimming pool the following morning.

Eloise Eloá Cordeiro Alves disappeared on the afternoon of September 30 while she was playing near her home in the Santa Lúcia community of Imbariê, in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro.

Hours later, her family and neighbors were still searching.

By the next morning, the search had turned into a devastating discovery.

ELOISE DISAPPEARED WHILE HER FAMILY THOUGHT SHE WAS SAFE

According to Brazilian reports, Eloise’s mother had left home to take the girl’s grandmother to hospital.

The four-year-old remained with her two older siblings, aged 11 and 15, while she was away.

When her mother returned, Eloise could not be found.

Family members and neighbors immediately began searching through the surrounding community. The search continued through the night, with relatives also checking nearby locations and hospitals for any sign of the child.

THE HEARTBREAKING DISCOVERY

Eloise was eventually found the following morning inside the swimming pool of a neighboring property.

A relative identified her, while police, firefighters and other emergency personnel were called to the scene.

Her father reportedly questioned how Eloise could have entered the neighboring home because the property has a high wall and gate.

The homeowner was questioned by police as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Authorities have said there is currently no indication of a violent crime.

However, the investigation has not simply been closed.

AUTOPSY RESULTS ARE STILL PENDING

Eloise’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a necropsy.

Brazilian authorities said the examination could take up to 30 days and is expected to help establish the exact circumstances and cause of her death.

Her uncle also urged people to wait for the police investigation, forensic examination and autopsy before drawing conclusions about what happened.
