BELOVED GP FOUND DEAD AT HOME WHILE HOSTING CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER — VILLAGE LEFT IN SHOCK

Dr Hannah Terry, also known as Hannah Cain, was found dead at her Norfolk home in the early hours of Sunday as a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder

A quiet Norfolk village has been left stunned after a beloved GP was found dead at her home while children were reportedly staying overnight.

Dr Hannah Terry, who was also known as Hannah Cain, was found at her property on Fern Hill in Dersingham, near the Sandringham estate, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.

Emergency services were called shortly after 2:20 a.m. by the ambulance service. The doctor, who was in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

CHILDREN WERE STAYING AT THE HOUSE

According to local reports, Hannah had been hosting a sleepover for her children’s friends when the tragedy unfolded.

The children who were staying at the house were taken away by police in the early hours and returned to their families while officers secured the property.

The shocking circumstances have made the case particularly distressing for the local community, where Hannah was known as a mother of three as well as a respected doctor.

Police have not publicly disclosed what happened inside the property, and the investigation remains in its early stages.

Hannah worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre, where she had started working the previous year after spending around nine years at another practice in nearby Heacham.

The medical centre was temporarily closed following her death, with staff describing the circumstances as extremely difficult for the practice team.

Hannah also worked privately at Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a cosmetic treatment company.

Her sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief from patients, colleagues and residents.

One local resident described her as “a lovely human being” and spoke of her three young children.

Flowers were also left outside the family home as the community struggled to process what had happened.

Neighbours described the area as an unusually quiet and friendly part of Norfolk.

One elderly neighbour said he had often seen Hannah’s children playing outside, recalling how they would sometimes kick a football into his garden and ask to retrieve it.

Another resident said the tragedy was difficult to comprehend because of how peaceful the village normally was.

“You read about things like this happening in other places,” one local said. “But nothing like it ever happens this close to home.”

The comments reflected the disbelief that has spread through Dersingham since the investigation began.

POLICE GIVEN MORE TIME TO QUESTION SUSPECT

Norfolk Police said detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team are leading the inquiry.

On October 5, officers obtained a warrant allowing them an additional 32 hours to question the man arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre.

A police cordon also remains around the property while forensic officers continue their work.

Detective Inspector Alix Wright said investigators were in the “very early stages” of establishing exactly what happened.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED

A Home Office post-mortem examination was due to take place as investigators worked to establish the circumstances and cause of Hannah’s death.

As of the latest reports, police have not publicly released the results.

That means many crucial questions remain unanswered — including what happened inside the house during the early hours of Sunday and the circumstances surrounding the death.

The man arrested has not been charged, and being arrested on suspicion of murder does not mean he has been found guilty of any offence.

For now, the investigation continues behind the police cordon.

But for the people who knew Dr Hannah Terry as their doctor, neighbour, friend or mother, the case is already more than a police investigation.

It is the sudden loss of a woman they knew as someone who cared for others.

A GP.

A mother of three.

A familiar face in the community.

And a woman whose life was suddenly cut short inside the home where her children and their friends had gathered for what should have been an ordinary night together. 🤍
