West Mercia Police said Miya was reported missing at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 4.

She was later found deceased in the park close to Elmley Castle Cricket Ground.

Her family were informed and have been supported by specially trained officers throughout the investigation.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the village, with residents leaving flowers and tributes near the area where Miya was found.

HER DEATH WAS INITIALLY “UNEXPLAINED”

When officers first announced the discovery, they said the circumstances surrounding Miya’s death were being treated as unexplained.

Police increased their presence in Elmley Castle while detectives worked to establish what had happened.

Residents were also urged not to speculate about the circumstances of the tragedy, with police warning that unverified information could cause additional distress to Miya’s family.

At the time, the uncertainty surrounding the case understandably caused concern throughout the community.

TRIBUTES FOR A GIRL REMEMBERED WITH LOVE

As news spread, tributes began appearing near the scene.

Flowers, including sunflowers, were left in Miya’s memory.

People who knew her described her as a happy and much-loved girl, while one school friend left an emotional message expressing how deeply she would be missed.

The tragedy has affected not only Miya’s family and friends but an entire village struggling to understand how such a devastating loss could happen.

POLICE HAVE NOW RULED OUT THIRD-PARTY INVOLVEMENT

On October 7, West Mercia Police announced the latest development.

After carrying out detailed and extensive enquiries, detectives said they had found no evidence of suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement in Miya’s death.

As a result, police confirmed that the death is not being treated as a criminal investigation.

A full file will now be prepared for HM Coroner, who will consider the circumstances of Miya’s death through the normal process.

POLICE ASK PEOPLE NOT TO SPECULATE

Chief Inspector Daniel Pilkington said the tragedy had understandably shocked the local community and reached far beyond the village.

He acknowledged that people naturally want answers when a child dies in such circumstances.

But he also urged members of the public to think about the impact that speculation and unverified claims could have on Miya’s grieving family.

Police said there is currently nothing to suggest a wider risk to the community.
