A ROYAL GP, A CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER AND A DISTURBING BURGLARY CLAIM — WHAT A COURT HEARD ABOUT DR HANNAH CAIN’S FINAL HOURS
The husband of a respected doctor who treated members of the Royal Family has appeared in court charged with her murder, after prosecutors outlined disturbing allegations about what happened inside the family home.
A children’s sleepover was taking place upstairs when emergency services were called to a home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of October 4, 2026.
Inside the property, 45-year-old Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious and unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom.
Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, had reportedly contacted police to report a suspected burglary. According to the prosecution account presented in court, he told officers he had confronted an intruder downstairs while his wife was upstairs.
But the circumstances described during the subsequent court proceedings raised deeply troubling questions about the events of that night.
WHAT PROSECUTORS ALLEGED IN COURT
During a hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8, prosecutors said Mark Cain was accused of striking his wife on the head with an axe and strangling her.
The court heard that he had superficial cuts when police arrived and had reported a suspected break-in.
The couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs, alongside two children aged eight and 10 who were staying overnight.
A post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to Hannah’s head and neck injuries consistent with compression, prosecutors told the court.
These details form part of the allegations in an active criminal case. They are not a verdict, and Mark Cain has the right to a fair trial.
A DOCTOR REMEMBERED FOR HER KINDNESS
Beyond the courtroom allegations, Hannah was a mother, daughter, sister, colleague and friend whose loss has devastated those who knew her.
She worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre and also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics. She had been part of a pool of doctors available to care for members of the Royal Family when they stayed at the nearby Sandringham estate.
Her family described her as “kind, generous and loving,” and spoke of the care she gave to her patients.
Colleagues at her medical practice also paid tribute to an exceptional doctor whose absence would be deeply felt across the local healthcare community.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Mark Cain appeared in court by video link from prison. He was not asked to enter a plea and was remanded in custody.
A further hearing was provisionally scheduled for December 3 at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date had been set at the October 8 hearing.
As proceedings continue, the focus remains on establishing the evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death.
For her family, however, the loss is already devastating: a beloved mother and respected doctor whose life meant so much to so many.
