ACó thể là hình ảnh về xe cứu thương và văn bản community in Norfolk is mourning the loss of Dr Hannah Cain, a respected general practitioner whose death has led to a murder investigation involving her own husband.

Hannah, who was professionally known as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unresponsive at her home in Dersingham in the early hours of October 4, 2026. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, was subsequently charged with her murder.

The case has drawn widespread attention because Hannah was reportedly among the doctors who could be called upon to provide medical care to members of the Royal Family when they stayed at the nearby Sandringham Estate.

But beyond the headlines, her family is grieving the loss of a woman they described as kind, generous and loving.

POST-MORTEM FINDINGS REVEALED IN COURT

During court proceedings on October 7, prosecutors outlined preliminary findings from Hannah’s post-mortem examination.

The court heard that the examination had identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of her head, along with an injury that could indicate compression of the neck.

At a further hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8, the prosecution referred to blunt-force injuries to the head and neck injuries consistent with compression.

These findings have become a significant part of the case as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

However, the injuries described in court should not be confused with a complete, final account of every circumstance surrounding the incident. The allegations remain subject to the criminal proceedings.

Mark Cain was arrested after emergency services attended the couple’s home.

Prosecutors told Norwich Magistrates’ Court that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. on October 4. Hannah was found in an upstairs bedroom, unconscious and not breathing, and was attended to by paramedics.

Mark appeared before magistrates on October 7 and subsequently appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court the following day. He was remanded in custody.

He has not been convicted of the charge, and the case remains before the courts. The prosecution must prove its allegations through the legal process.

A DOCTOR DEDICATED TO HER PATIENTS

Hannah was a member of the team at Grimston Medical Centre and had worked as a qualified doctor for more than 15 years, according to information about her professional background.

She had also worked as a general practitioner for eight years and ran a cosmetic medical business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.

Her work brought her into contact with patients who relied on her medical knowledge and care. Reports also identified her as part of a rota of doctors available to serve the Royal Family when they were staying in Norfolk.

Following her death, flowers were left outside Grimston Medical Centre, where a notice acknowledged the extremely difficult circumstances affecting the practice team.

HER FAMILY’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE

In a statement released after her death, Hannah’s family expressed their devastation at losing someone so important to their lives.

“We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Hannah,” they said.

They remembered her as “kind, generous and loving,” describing her many roles within the family and the care she gave to her patients.

The statement also highlighted how proud they were of the woman she had become and asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieved.

Their words offered a glimpse of the person behind the public attention: a daughter, mother, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend whose loss has left a profound gap in the lives of those who loved her.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Mark Cain remains in custody while the legal process continues. A further hearing is provisionally scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Norwich Crown Court.

Investigators and prosecutors will continue to pursue the case through the appropriate legal channels.

For Hannah’s family, the court proceedings unfold alongside the deeply personal reality of losing someone they loved. Their tribute has placed the focus not only on the circumstances being examined by investigators, but also on Hannah’s life, her work and the people who will remember her.

As the case continues, the allegations must be tested in court. Meanwhile, her family’s message remains a reminder that behind every major criminal investigation are people enduring a loss that cannot be measured by headlines alone.
