Mark Cain, 45, appeared by video link from prison after being charged with the murder of his wife, Dr Hannah Cain, also known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry. The court heard that five children were at the Dersingham property when emergency services were called.

The case surrounding the death of Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain has reached another significant stage, as her husband appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court to face a murder charge.

Hannah, 45, was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom at the family home in Dersingham, Norfolk, during the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Mark Cain, also 45, appeared by video link from prison on Thursday, October 8. He confirmed his identity but was not asked to enter a plea.

As the legal proceedings continue, details heard in court have brought further attention to the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death and the family left grieving.

Prosecutor Steven Ball told the court that Hannah’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs at the property. Two other children, aged eight and 10, were also staying overnight for a sleepover.

The children’s presence has added a particularly distressing dimension to the case. Their privacy and well-being remain important as the legal process unfolds.

Emergency services were called at around 2:25 a.m. on October 4. Hannah was found unconscious and unresponsive, and paramedics attended the scene.

POST-MORTEM FINDINGS WERE OUTLINED

During the hearing, the prosecution said a post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to Hannah’s head and neck injuries consistent with compression.

These findings were presented as part of the court proceedings concerning her death. The murder charge remains an allegation, and the case must be determined through the judicial process.

Mark Cain remains in custody. He was remanded until a plea hearing provisionally scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Norwich Crown Court. No provisional trial date had been set at the time of reporting.

Hannah was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and worked at Grimston Medical Centre. She had also run Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, combining her general practice work with her own medical aesthetics business.

She was reportedly part of a pool of doctors available to care for members of the Royal Family when they stayed at the nearby Sandringham Estate.

Following her death, her family released a tribute describing her as “kind, generous and loving.”

They remembered her as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and praised the care she had given to her patients throughout her medical career.

HER FAMILY ASKS FOR PRIVACY

The loss has prompted tributes from colleagues and members of the local community. Grimston Medical Centre also acknowledged the difficult circumstances affecting its team.

For Hannah’s loved ones, the court proceedings are unfolding alongside the pain of losing someone central to their lives.

As the case moves forward, the allegations against Mark Cain will be considered through the legal system. He has not been convicted, and the right to a fair trial must be respected.

For those who knew Hannah, however, her life cannot be reduced to the circumstances of her death. She was a doctor who cared for her patients and a mother whose family is now facing an immense loss.

Her relatives have asked for privacy as they grieve and remember the woman they described as their “beautiful Hannah.”
