“HE SPOKE ONLY TO CONFIRM HIS NAME” — NEW DETAILS EMERGE IN DR HANNAH TERRY MURDER CASE

The Norfolk GP’s husband appeared in court as prosecutors outlined post-mortem findings and confirmed that children were present at the family home.

A respected Norfolk doctor’s death has left her family, colleagues and patients devastated, as new details emerged during court proceedings involving her husband, who has been charged with her murder.

Mark Cain, 45, appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8, 2026, charged in connection with the death of his wife, Dr Hannah Cain, who was professionally known as Dr Hannah Terry.

The 45-year-old GP was found unresponsive at the family home on Fern Hill in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. Emergency services were called shortly after 2:20 a.m., and paramedics attended the scene.

During an earlier hearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the court that the post-mortem examination had identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of Dr Cain’s head. The examination also noted an injury that could suggest compression of the neck.

The findings were presented as part of the proceedings, but the precise cause of death remained subject to further investigation, according to the initial statement from Norfolk Constabulary.

The court also heard that children were present inside the property at the time of the incident, adding to the distress surrounding the case.

HUSBAND REMANDED IN CUSTODY

During his initial court appearance, Mark Cain spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was not asked to enter a plea at that hearing.

He subsequently appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link and was remanded in custody until December 3, 2026, when a plea hearing is provisionally scheduled at Norwich Crown Court.

The case remains ongoing, and the charge against Cain has not been determined by a trial.

Beyond the court proceedings, Dr Cain’s family are mourning the loss of a woman remembered for her compassion and dedication to others.

She worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre and also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics. Her professional career included more than 15 years as a qualified doctor and eight years working as a general practitioner.

In a tribute, her family described her as “kind, generous and loving,” highlighting the care she gave to her patients.

The medical centre temporarily closed following the tragedy, acknowledging the difficult circumstances affecting its team.

As investigators continue their work and the legal process moves forward, Dr Cain’s family have asked for privacy during this deeply painful period.

For those who knew her through her medical work, she is remembered not simply as a name in a court case, but as a doctor whose work touched the lives of patients and families across her community.

The investigation continues, and the court proceedings will determine the case against Mark Cain.
