STRICTLY COME DANCING STAR EMMA WILLIS REVEALS FRIGHTENING MOMENT SHE COLLAPSED AND WAS RUSHED TO HOSPITAL
The television presenter has recalled the alarming incident that left her confused after she regained consciousness — revealing how an ordinary day filming a medical documentary suddenly took an unexpected turn.
Emma Willis has opened up about a frightening health scare in which she fainted while filming her medical documentary, Emma Willis: Delivering Babies. The presenter, now one of the hosts of Strictly Come Dancing, recently shared the experience during an appearance on comedian Tom Allen’s Pottering podcast.
The incident took place in 2018, while Willis was gaining hands-on experience in a hospital as part of the Channel 4 documentary. Her story has resurfaced following her recent comments, prompting renewed interest in the unexpected moment behind the scenes.
A hospital procedure took an unexpected turn
Willis has previously spoken about her long-standing interest in medicine, which was influenced by her mother’s work with the NHS. While making the documentary, she trained as a maternity care assistant and continued spending time working alongside hospital staff beyond filming hours.
During one shift, Willis was invited to observe a procedure carried out after childbirth. Although she was keen to see the procedure, she soon began to feel unwell.
She told a member of staff that she did not feel right. The team helped her towards the theatre’s back exit, but she collapsed as she reached the area outside.
A colleague who witnessed what happened helped lower her to the floor.
She woke up confused about where she was
When Willis regained consciousness, she struggled to understand her surroundings. She recalled seeing a pair of Crocs and initially thinking she was at her daughter’s school to collect her.
As she became more alert, she gradually realised that she was on the floor at the hospital and had fainted.
Because she had lost consciousness, staff arranged further medical checks. Willis underwent blood tests and an electrocardiogram (ECG) before being discharged.
A member of the production team accompanied her home in case she felt faint again.
Looking back on the experience, Willis admitted that she had been deeply embarrassed. She also recalled that the hospital staff had laughed about the incident afterwards, despite how unsettling it had been for her.
From medical documentary to Strictly Come Dancing
Willis’s experience in the hospital came years before she took on her latest television role. She is now presenting Strictly Come Dancing alongside comedian Josh Widdicombe and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe.
The trio took over hosting duties in 2026 after longtime presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman left the programme at the end of the previous series.
Willis has also built a television career through programmes including The Voice UK and Big Brother. Her medical documentary offered viewers a different side of her life, following her as she learned about maternity care and worked alongside NHS professionals.
No new medical emergency has been reported
Although the headline-making story has prompted concern among viewers, the collapse described by Willis happened during filming in 2018. Her recent comments revisit that past experience; the reports do not indicate that she has suffered a new medical emergency.
Her account offers a reminder of how quickly someone can become unwell, even in a familiar environment. It also highlights the demanding, sometimes unpredictable experiences she encountered while stepping away from the television studio and into a hospital setting.
Willis has since returned to television in a prominent role on Strictly Come Dancing, while her recollection of the incident has brought renewed attention to an unexpected chapter of her career.
