MARDIN PROVINCE, TURKEY — An eight-year-old girl named Emine Temel has died following a tragic accident involving a tractor in southeastern Turkey.
The incident occurred on October 9, 2026, in İkisu, a neighbourhood in the Mazıdağı district of Mardin province. According to local media reports, Emine had been playing with other children near a parked tractor when the vehicle suddenly began moving backwards.
Reports indicate that children had climbed onto the tractor and interacted with its controls. The gear was reportedly shifted into neutral and the handbrake released, allowing the heavy vehicle to roll. Emine was behind the tractor and was unable to get out of its path in time.
EMERGENCY SERVICES RUSHED TO HELP
People nearby raised the alarm, and emergency medical personnel and gendarmerie officers were called to the scene.
Initial local reports said Emine received medical attention before being transported to hospital. Despite efforts to save her, the child later died from her injuries.
Her body was taken to Mardin Training and Research Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being returned to her family for burial.
