MISSING GRANDMOTHER LORRETTA MOODY, 67, FOUND DEAD INSIDE SUITCASE BROUGHT TO KANSAS FIRE STATION

A disturbing investigation is underway in Wichita, Kansas, after the body of a 67-year-old grandmother who had been reported missing was discovered inside a suitcase brought directly to a local fire station.

The woman was identified as Lorretta Moody, 67. Police are investigating her death as a homicide, but no arrests have been announced.

TWO PEOPLE ARRIVED AT THE FIRE STATION WITH A SUITCASE

The investigation began on the evening of September 16, when two people arrived at Wichita Fire Station 22 in south Wichita carrying a suitcase.

They told fire department personnel that a body was inside.

Firefighters immediately requested an urgent police response. Officers arrived and opened the suitcase, discovering the remains of a woman inside.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later taken to the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.

Police later identified the woman as Lorretta Moody.

Authorities said Moody had already been reported missing before her body was discovered. Investigators are now working to reconstruct her final movements and determine exactly how she died and how her body came to be transported to the fire station.

POLICE ARE QUESTIONING THE TWO PEOPLE

The two individuals who brought the suitcase to the station were interviewed by detectives.

However, police have not publicly identified them as suspects, and authorities have not disclosed whether they had any relationship with Moody.

Investigators have been interviewing additional people, processing evidence and working to establish a timeline surrounding Moody’s disappearance and death.

Police have also said there is no information indicating an ongoing threat to the public.

As of September 24, no arrests had been announced.

FAMILY LEFT SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

Moody’s family has spoken publicly about the shock of learning how she was found.

One of her granddaughters, Lexi Shafer, expressed disbelief that her grandmother’s remains had been brought to a fire station inside a suitcase.

“That was our family. She wasn’t just a woman in a suitcase.”

Another granddaughter, Alexis Trotter, described the circumstances as deeply disturbing, saying there was “no other word” for what happened.

Shafer also recalled her grandmother as someone who loved being around her family. She told local media that one of the things that reminds her of Moody is Cherry Pepsi, which her grandmother regularly carried in a tumbler.

Moody would have celebrated her 68th birthday on September 27, just days after her remains were discovered.

$5,000 REWARD OFFERED

The investigation remained active as of September 24.

Crime Stoppers of Wichita and Sedgwick County is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in Moody’s homicide.

Police are asking anyone with information about Moody’s disappearance, death or the circumstances surrounding the suitcase to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Authorities have not publicly released a cause of death, and the circumstances surrounding Moody’s final hours remain under investigation.

For her family, however, the case is already more than a criminal investigation.

It is the search for answers about what happened to a grandmother whose life, they say, should be remembered for far more than the suitcase in which she was found.
