WADE WILSON REMAINS ON DEATH ROW TWO YEARS AFTER DEATH SENTENCE — HERE’S WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE ‘DEADPOOL KILLER’

Nearly two years after a Florida judge sentenced Wade Steven Wilson to death for the 2019 murders of two women, he remains on Florida’s death row as his legal case continues through the courts.

Wilson, whose name became widely known online because it is shared with the fictional Marvel character Deadpool, was convicted of killing Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Lee County, Florida, on October 7, 2019.

His convictions and death sentences remain in place.

However, Wilson has not been executed, and no execution date has been publicly announced.

TWO WOMEN KILLED IN ONE DAY

According to evidence presented during Wilson’s 2024 trial, the two killings occurred within hours of each other.

Wilson met Melton at a Fort Myers bar before accompanying her to her home.

Prosecutors said Melton was later killed inside her home.

Wilson then left in Melton’s vehicle.

Later that morning, he encountered Ruiz, who was walking to work.

Investigators said Wilson persuaded Ruiz to get into the vehicle before killing her.

The case became even more widely known after investigators and prosecutors presented evidence about Wilson’s actions and statements following the killings.

Wilson was arrested less than a day after the two women were killed.

His biological father, Steven Testasecca, contacted authorities after Wilson called him and made admissions about what had happened, according to testimony reported during the trial.

JURY CONVICTS WILSON

Wilson went to trial in Lee County in June 2024.

A jury found him guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, along with other offenses connected to the case.

The jury subsequently recommended the death penalty for both murders.

The recommendation was 9-3 for Melton’s murder and 10-2 for Ruiz’s murder.

In August 2024, Judge Nicholas Thompson formally sentenced Wilson to death for both killings.

The sentence placed him on Florida’s death row at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford.

The conviction and death sentences are still in effect.

THE APPEAL DID NOT END WITH THE SENTENCE

A death sentence in Florida does not mean an execution takes place immediately.

Wilson’s attorneys challenged aspects of his conviction and death sentences before the Florida Supreme Court.
