FOUR-YEAR-OLD BOY GUS LAMONT VANISHED FROM HIS RURAL HOME — MONTHS LATER, POLICE NAME A SUSPECT IN THE MYSTERIOUS CASE

The disappearance of 4-year-old Gus Lamont from his family’s remote South Australian property has become a major crime investigation, months after the little boy vanished without a trace.

Gus was last seen at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Oak Park Station, a large sheep property about 40 kilometers south of Yunta in South Australia.

His family reported him missing that night.

Investigators searched paddocks, scrubland, tracks and other areas surrounding the homestead.

On September 30, authorities found what appeared to be a child’s footprint approximately 500 meters from the homestead.

Police said the boot pattern appeared very similar to the footwear Gus had been wearing when he disappeared.

A tracker was brought in to examine the area and attempt to determine which direction the child may have traveled.

But despite the extensive operation, Gus was not found.

POLICE INITIALLY RULED OUT ABDUCTION

In the early stages of the investigation, police said they believed Gus may have wandered away from the property.

Authorities also said they believed he was likely still somewhere on the vast station.

South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said at the time that police did not believe Gus had been taken from the property.

That position later changed.

As the investigation progressed, detectives examined the possibility that another person could have been involved in the boy’s disappearance.

Eventually, police said an abduction theory had become a significant part of their investigation, although investigators later said they had discounted the possibility of a stranger taking Gus.

On February 5, 2026, more than four months after Gus disappeared, South Australia Police announced a major development.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch formally declared Gus’s disappearance a major crime.

Police also confirmed that they had identified a suspect.

The person was known to Gus and had lived at Oak Park Station, according to police.

Authorities stressed that Gus’s parents were not suspects.

Police also confirmed that Gus’s mother, younger brother and grandparents had been at the property around the time he disappeared.
