COURT HEARS NEW ALLEGATION IN CASE OF DR HANNAH CAIN AS HUSBAND FACES MURDER CHARGE

A preliminary court hearing has heard an allegation that Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain was struck on the head with an axe before her death. Her husband, Mark Cain, has been charged with her murder and remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue.

The death of Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally to her patients as Dr Hannah Terry, has prompted an outpouring of grief across Norfolk, where she was remembered as a devoted mother and a valued member of the medical community.

The 45-year-old GP was found unresponsive at her home in Dersingham in the early hours of October 4, 2026. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, was subsequently charged with her murder.

WHAT THE COURT HEARD

During a hearing at King’s Lynn Crown Court on October 8, prosecutor Steven Ball outlined the allegation against Mark Cain, including that he had struck his wife on the head with an axe and strangled her.

The court was told that a post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to Dr Cain’s head and neck injuries consistent with compression. These medical findings were presented as part of the prosecution’s account of the case. <Cite refs={[“turn809719news7″,”turn809719search0”]}/>

The allegations have not been determined at trial, and Mark Cain is entitled to a fair trial.

The hearing was told that the couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, were upstairs at the family home. Two other children, aged eight and 10, were also reportedly staying overnight for a sleepover.

Prosecutors said emergency services attended after a call concerning a suspected break-in. The circumstances surrounding that report formed part of the account presented to the court.

The presence of children in the house has added to the sadness surrounding the case, which has deeply affected the local community.

Dr Cain worked at Grimston Medical Centre and had also operated a cosmetic medicine business. She was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years, according to her business website.

Her family described her as “kind, generous and loving” and praised the care she gave her patients. They also asked for privacy as they grieve their loss.

Colleagues and patients have shared tributes to a doctor whose work touched many lives in the community.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link and was remanded in custody. A plea hearing was scheduled for December 3, 2026, provisionally at Norwich Crown Court.

The case remains before the courts. The allegations and evidence will need to be examined through the proper legal process, and no finding of guilt should be assumed before trial.

For Dr Cain’s family, friends, colleagues and patients, the proceedings come amid the loss of a woman remembered for her dedication to medicine and her loved ones.

As the case moves forward, the focus remains on establishing the facts while respecting the family’s grief and the defendant’s right to a fair trial.
