FOUR LIVES LOST IN A NIGHTMARE — CALLUM AND JAYDEN ENGLISH KILLED ALONGSIDE THEIR PARENTS IN SUSPECTED ARSON ATTACK
A community in Waterford is grieving the deaths of two young brothers and their parents after a devastating house fire, while two other children remain critically ill in hospital.
The lives of an entire family have been shattered by an unimaginable tragedy in Waterford, Ireland.
Callum English, 12, and his younger brother Jayden, 9, died alongside their parents, Philip and Kim English, after a fire broke out at their home in the Birchwood estate shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Gardaí, Ireland’s national police service, believe the fire was deliberately started using an incendiary device thrown at the property. A murder investigation has been launched.
Two other children from the family, aged 14 and 6, were rescued and taken to hospital. As of the latest reports on October 14, both remained in critical condition.
A FAMILY REMEMBERED WITH LOVE
News of the deaths has left relatives, friends and neighbours struggling to comprehend the loss of four family members in a single incident.
Callum had been involved with Johnville Football Club for five years. The club paid tribute to the young boy and his family, remembering the familiar faces who had supported him throughout his time playing football.
Jayden’s story has also touched many people. He had undergone major heart surgery just two weeks before the tragedy. Both boys had previously been featured by BUMBLEance, Ireland’s dedicated children’s ambulance service, because of their medical needs.
For those who knew the family, the loss is almost impossible to put into words.
INVESTIGATORS EXAMINE A SUSPECTED DELIBERATE ATTACK
Investigators are treating the fire as a suspected arson attack and are pursuing several lines of inquiry.
Relatives have spoken publicly about their belief that the family may have been caught up in intimidation connected to a drug-related debt allegedly owed by another person. That possible motive has not been established by a court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have conducted searches and appealed to anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward. No arrests had been confirmed in reports published on October 14.
A FUNDRAISER TO HELP THE FAMILY
As relatives face the heartbreaking task of arranging four funerals, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses and ease the financial burden on the surviving family.
The fundraiser also asks people to keep the two hospitalized children in their thoughts as their loved ones wait for updates.
A vigil in Waterford brought members of the community together to mourn Philip, Kim, Callum and Jayden and to pray for the two children still receiving hospital care.
Four lives have been lost, and a family is facing a grief that words cannot begin to describe. As the investigation continues, the community is holding on to hope for the children who survived and seeking answers about the tragedy that changed their lives forever.
May Philip, Kim, Callum and Jayden rest in peace.
