THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEYS OF CHANG-HYUN CHOI

On May 10, 2006, South Korean traveler Chang-Hyun Choi embarked on an extraordinary expedition across Europe and the Middle East. Living with severe cerebral palsy and completely paralyzed from the neck down, Choi navigated his motorized wheelchair using only his mouth. Operating at a maximum speed of just 13 kilometers per hour, he set out to conquer a daunting 28,000-kilometer path. By December 6, 2007, nearly nineteen months later, he successfully crossed 35 countries. This remarkable feat earned him a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous journey by a mouth-controlled motorized wheelchair.

However, that historic accomplishment was far from the final chapter of his story. Driven by an unyielding spirit, Choi continued to push physical limits and pursue new milestones. Nearly eighteen years after his cross-continental expedition, he set another remarkable goal. From November 30 to December 1, 2025, Choi continuously navigated back and forth along South Korea’s vast Saemangeum Seawall. In just 24 hours, he covered an impressive distance of 306 kilometers, securing a second separate Guinness World Records title.

While his first record measured the sheer endurance of traveling across continents over many months, his second tested the maximum distance achievable in a single day. Across both achievements, separated by nearly two decades, Chang-Hyun Choi proved that physical limitations could not dictate his path. He remains a powerful symbol of independence, courage, and determination, continuously taking control of his own destination.
