OVERCOMING BARRIERS: THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF VINAYANA KHURANA

Born with cerebral palsy in New Delhi, Vinayana Khurana faced severe movement and coordination challenges that made basic tasks like holding a pen nearly impossible. Refusing to let physical limitations dictate her future, she adapted by learning to type using her nose, unlocking a powerful means to articulate her thoughts, pursue education, and share her literary voice with the world.

That creative adaptation fueled an impressive academic career. Vinayana earned both her Master’s degree and MPhil in English Literature from the University of Delhi. Demonstrating remarkable perseverance, she later returned to her alma mater as a guest lecturer with the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board, guiding and inspiring university students in the very classrooms where her own higher education journey began.

Beyond teaching, Vinayana has established a thriving career as a poet, author, and passionate disability inclusion advocate. Through storytelling, comics, and humor, she addresses everyday experiences, challenges societal stereotypes, and ensures her own narrative remains in her hands. She frequently highlights the vital need for accessible environments, adaptive tools, and equal educational and professional opportunities. While her unique method of typing often captures initial attention, her true achievement lies in the substance of her work: rigorous academic research, published literature, and impactful university teaching that continue to challenge perceptions.
