BODY DISCOVERED DURING SEARCH OPERATION
A body has been found during the search for 19-year-old Georgie Nolan, who disappeared in Wiltshire over the weekend, prompting an extensive search involving specialist rescue teams.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the discovery was made in the Bradford-on-Avon area on Tuesday, October 27, as officers and search teams continued efforts to locate the missing teenager.
Although Georgie’s family has been informed, authorities said formal identification had not yet taken place. Police have not officially confirmed that the body is hers.
GEORGIE WAS LAST SEEN NEAR THE KENNET AND AVON CANAL
Georgie was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, October 24, near The Barge Inn and the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bradford-on-Avon.
She was believed to have been walking close to the water at around 5 a.m., raising concerns that she may have fallen into the canal.
A major search operation was launched, with specialist search-and-rescue teams examining the waterway and surrounding areas. Volunteers also assisted, while underwater cameras were used to inspect areas beneath boats moored along the canal.
Specialist police divers joined the operation as the search continued over several days.
FAMILY RECEIVING SUPPORT FROM SPECIALLY TRAINED OFFICERS
In a statement, Wiltshire Police confirmed that Georgie’s family had been informed of the discovery and was receiving support from specially trained officers.
The force also asked that the family’s privacy be respected during what it described as an extremely difficult time.
“Our thoughts are with Georgie’s family and friends,” police said.
The statement did not provide further details about the circumstances in which the body was found.
POLICE SAY DEATH IS NOT CURRENTLY BELIEVED TO BE SUSPICIOUS
Police said enquiries remain ongoing but that, at this early stage, they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Formal identification is expected to take place in due course. No confirmed cause of death has been announced.
Authorities have not released further details about what may have happened to Georgie after she was last seen near the canal.
COMMUNITY AWAITS FURTHER INFORMATION
