ONE LAST HOPE: FAMILY AWAITS ANSWERS AFTER BODY FOUND DURING SEARCH FOR MISSING SCOTS DAD CRAIG SMITH, 40
A body was discovered in woodland in Stranraer days after Craig Smith was last seen. His family has been informed, but formal identification remains outstanding.
The search for missing Scotsman Craig Smith has taken a distressing turn after a body was discovered in woodland in Stranraer, Scotland.
The 40-year-old was reported missing after he was last seen on Old Port Avenue on the afternoon of Saturday, October 17, 2026. Police Scotland later confirmed that a man’s body had been found on Sunday, October 25, and that Craig’s family had been informed of the discovery.
However, formal identification had not yet taken place, and authorities had not publicly confirmed that the body was Craig’s. Until that process is complete, his identity remains unconfirmed.
CRAIG DISAPPEARED IN OCTOBER
Craig was reported missing on Monday, October 19, after his family had last spoken with him on the evening of October 17.
Police said his disappearance was out of character and appealed to anyone who might have seen or spoken to him to come forward.
He was described as around 5ft 7in tall, with short brown hair and distinctive tattoos on his neck and arms. During the search, officers said he was believed to be wearing a black puffer jacket, dark cargo trousers, black trainers and a black cap.
FAMILY LEFT WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION
The discovery has brought a new and painful uncertainty for Craig’s loved ones, who have been waiting for news since he disappeared.
Although the family has been informed that a body was found, the formal identification process remains a crucial step before police can confirm whether it is Craig.
Authorities have not publicly released further details about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
POLICE ENQUIRIES CONTINUE
Police Scotland said a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, Scotland’s public prosecution service, for consideration.
Anyone with information that could help establish Craig’s movements after he was last seen is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 1309 of October 19, 2026.
For now, the central question remains unanswered: whether the discovery will bring Craig’s family the confirmation they have been waiting for.
