“OUR FATHER, PROTECT US”: PILOT JEFF GREGORY’S FINAL PRAYER BEFORE FATAL FLORIDA PLANE CRASH THAT KILLED NINE
A heartbreaking radio recording from the final moments of a deadly Learjet 60 crash in Florida has captured what appears to be a male voice reciting the Lord’s Prayer as the aircraft plunged toward the ground. The voice has been linked in media reports to Captain Jeff Gregory, 55, a devoted Christian, husband and father of three. All nine people aboard the aircraft lost their lives.
A Pilot Remembered for His Faith and Love of Flying
Captain Jeff Gregory, 55, of Pennsylvania, has been remembered by friends and loved ones as a devoted husband, father of three and experienced pilot whose passion for aviation began when he was young.
Gregory was married to his wife, Cheryl, and had been a Christian since childhood.
A lifelong friend and former neighbor recalled growing up alongside him in Pennsylvania. Their families were closely connected to a small Christian community, and both boys attended the same Christian school.
Their parents also worked at a local chapel, where faith was an important part of their upbringing.
During the 1990s, Gregory began pursuing flight training, turning his childhood fascination with aviation into a lifelong profession.
He went on to spend more than two decades working in aviation, earning the respect of people who knew him as a hardworking and dedicated pilot.
But his final flight would become part of a tragedy that claimed nine lives.
A Prayer Heard During the Aircraft’s Final Moments
In the aftermath of the November 1 crash, radio communications between the aircraft and air traffic control began circulating publicly.
Among the most heartbreaking moments was a male voice that appeared to recite words from the Lord’s Prayer as the aircraft experienced a catastrophic emergency.
The prayer included words associated with the familiar Christian passage, beginning with:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…”
The recording reportedly captured the voice praying while the flight crew struggled to respond to the rapidly deteriorating situation.
Although the male voice has been associated with Captain Gregory in media reports, authorities have not conclusively confirmed the speaker’s identity.
The recording is particularly emotional given what friends have shared about Gregory’s deep Christian faith.
It offers a heartbreaking glimpse into the final moments of a flight that ended with the loss of everyone aboard.
The Final Emergency Communications
The Learjet 60 departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas on November 1, bound for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
During the flight, the crew reported encountering icing, precipitation and moderate turbulence.
The pilots requested a change in altitude in an attempt to find smoother conditions.
However, the situation quickly deteriorated.
Air traffic control communications captured the crew reporting an increasingly rapid descent. The aircraft reportedly experienced an extreme loss of altitude, with the crew declaring an emergency.
In the final exchanges, the co-pilot could be heard warning that the aircraft was heading toward the ground.
One of the last reported transmissions included the devastating words:
“We’re out of time.”
Shortly afterward, communication with the aircraft was lost.
At approximately 12:50 p.m. local time, the Learjet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida.
All nine people aboard were killed.
Nine Lives Lost in the Florida Tragedy
The victims included seven passengers and two members of the flight crew.
They were identified as:
Passengers:
- Adam Robinson, 44 – Technology entrepreneur
- Helen Sharp, 40 – Adam’s wife
- Emma Robinson, 4 – Their young daughter
- Charlie Robinson, 2 – Their young son
- Rachael Reed
- Charmi Fehr
- Anita Maria Cetina – The children’s caregiver
Flight crew:
- Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20 – Co-pilot
- Jeff Gregory, 55 – Captain
The Robinson family had been traveling together from Texas to the Bahamas when the aircraft went down.
Their two young children, just four and two years old, were among those killed.
The tragedy also claimed the lives of the two pilots, along with the caregiver and family friends accompanying the family.
Investigators Continue Searching for Answers
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation into the crash, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Preliminary findings indicated that the aircraft’s crew encountered icing and moderate turbulence before the rapid descent.
Investigators also reported evidence suggesting the aircraft may have begun breaking apart before striking the ground.
The precise cause of the accident has not yet been established.
The radio recording has drawn particular attention because it provides insight into the crew’s final communications. However, it should not be confused with a confirmed cockpit voice recorder transcript.
Investigators continue examining the aircraft, available flight information and other evidence to determine what happened.
A Devastating Loss for Nine Families
As tributes continue to emerge, Gregory is being remembered not only as the captain of the doomed aircraft but also as a husband, father, friend and man whose Christian faith shaped much of his life.
His wife, Cheryl, his three children, relatives and friends are now facing an unimaginable loss.
The other victims also leave behind families and loved ones whose lives have been forever changed.
For those who knew Gregory, the reported prayer heard during the aircraft’s final radio communications has taken on an especially painful meaning.
A man who spent decades pursuing his dream of flying became one of nine lives lost in a devastating accident.
May Jeff Gregory, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras and all seven passengers rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy.
