Day 2 of the Ridglan Beagle Rescue: 150 More Dogs Step Into Freedom

For 150 beagles, Day 2 of the Ridglan Rescue was the day their world finally opened up. After years spent in confined cages for laboratory testing, these gentle animals got their first taste of grass under their paws, fresh air on their faces, and the warmth of human touch. For many, it was the first time in their lives they felt safe, loved, and free.

A Heartfelt Beginning

The story of Ridglan Farms is one of tragedy and hope intertwined. For years, the facility in Wisconsin bred beagles for experiments, often isolating them in cages without comfort or affection. The ongoing rescue operation, led by Big Dog Ranch Rescue in collaboration with the Center for a Humane Economy, is now changing the lives of hundreds of these innocent animals.

Day 2 brought another 150 dogs to freedom, and volunteers describe scenes that are heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. Some beagles hesitated at first, unsure what this strange new world was. Others ran boldly, tails wagging, savoring the sunlight and grass as if discovering life itself for the first time.

Voices for the Voiceless

The rescue has drawn support from public figures who have lent their voices to animals who cannot speak for themselves. Debbie Gibson and Geezer Butler were present to advocate for the dogs, helping bring national attention to the operation. “You could see the hope in the dogs’ eyes,” said one volunteer. “For them, these moments of love and care are everything.”

Unsung Heroes: The Volunteers

Behind every beagle stepping into freedom are the countless volunteers, who patiently greeted the frightened animals with gentle words, soft hands, and endless patience. These volunteers are the bridge between a life of confinement and the promise of homes filled with love. Watching timid dogs slowly come alive, sniffing grass, and playing with others is a scene that will stay with everyone present forever.

Halfway There, Hope Ahead

With Day 2 complete, the Ridglan Release is now officially halfway finished. Hundreds of beagles have already been freed, but the remaining dogs still inside the facility await their turn. Advocates and volunteers are determined that every dog will experience the freedom, safety, and affection they so deserve.

The ongoing rescue operation is more than a story about animals—it is a story about human compassion, resilience, and the difference one community can make. It is a reminder that even in the darkest circumstances, kindness can change lives forever.

As the team prepares for Day 3, anticipation is high. Every wagging tail and joyful leap is a testament to the power of hope—and a stark reminder that these dogs are finally being given a second chance at life.

Stay tuned as we continue to follow the remaining dogs and witness the historic completion of the Ridglan Release.
