A heartbreaking question from a five-year-old boy has touched thousands of people after he was photographed sitting quietly beside his mother’s coffin following her passing.

Little Khayne Castro, from the Philippines, was captured in a series of emotional images during his mother’s funeral, unable to fully understand why she was no longer coming home.

According to family members, Khayne’s mother passed away shortly after giving birth. While the newborn baby continues receiving medical care, the family is also facing the painful reality of saying goodbye to a beloved mother.

The most heartbreaking moment came when Khayne reportedly asked a simple question that left relatives struggling for words.

“Why can’t I sleep next to Mom?”

During the funeral, the young boy was seen sitting silently beside the coffin. At times, he climbed onto a chair to look inside, hoping to be closer to his mother. At other moments, he remained quietly seated nearby, appearing confused by the sudden absence of the person he loved most.

Family member Marichu Gabriel said the scenes were almost impossible to witness.

Sharing the photos online, she wrote: “How am I going to explain this to him?”

Relatives revealed that before the funeral service, Khayne had even arranged several chairs together so he could lie down beside his mother’s coffin, wanting to spend one more night close to her.

The images quickly spread across social media, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from people around the world.

Many were particularly moved by the innocence of the young boy, who was still trying to understand a loss far beyond his years.
