Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican: A Strong Message on AI and Human Dignity

Pope Leo XIV has recently placed artificial intelligence at the center of the Vatican’s moral conversation. In May 2026, he approved the creation of a Vatican Interdicasterial Commission on Artificial Intelligence, showing that the Church wants to respond seriously to the rapid growth of AI.

Speaking to participants at the Vatican conference “Preserving Human Faces and Voices,” Pope Leo XIV encouraged the Church to help society understand technology without losing sight of Christ, truth, and human dignity. He warned that technology must never erase the human face, silence authentic voices, or reduce people to data.

In his first encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence,” Pope Leo XIV stressed that AI must serve humanity, not concentrate power in the hands of a few. His message focused on truth, work, social justice, peace, and the protection of the human person in an age of rapid technological change.

The Pope’s message is clear: AI is not evil by itself, but it must be guided by ethics, responsibility, and compassion. The Vatican is calling the world to build technology that protects people, strengthens communities, and keeps humanity at the center.

In a world racing toward the future, Pope Leo XIV reminds us: progress without dignity is not true progress.
