A 12-week-old puppy has been rescued after witnesses reported a disturbing incident that has left an entire Washington community shocked.

Authorities in Spokane Valley say the tiny brown-and-white puppy was allegedly mistreated after an accident inside its owner’s home.

According to investigators, 39-year-old Christopher R. Myers became upset after the young puppy reportedly defecated on a couch. The situation escalated further when Myers later stepped in the puppy’s waste on a porch.

Deputies say Myers admitted he picked up the puppy and tossed it into the grass. However, witnesses reported seeing far more concerning behavior.

Several people told authorities they observed the helpless puppy being thrown and handled roughly, causing it to cry out in distress. Witnesses later provided written statements and evidence supporting their accounts of what they had seen.

The reports prompted an immediate response from law enforcement and animal protection officers.

When deputies arrived at the residence, investigators say Myers initially refused to come outside and later claimed he could not remember exactly what had happened. Although he acknowledged tossing the puppy, authorities said he refused requests to voluntarily surrender the animal.

Concerned for the puppy’s welfare, animal protection officers obtained a search warrant allowing them to remove the animal from the property.

The frightened young dog was then transported to an emergency veterinary clinic where specialists could assess its condition and ensure it received proper care.

Animal advocates have since praised the witnesses who came forward, saying their quick actions may have prevented further suffering.

“This puppy had no way to speak for itself,” one supporter said. “Thankfully, people saw what happened and chose to act.”

The investigation remains ongoing, while the rescued puppy is now safe and receiving the attention and care it needs.
