Houston, Texas β€” A disturbing criminal case out of Houston is drawing attention after a local attorney was charged with a serious offense involving the family dog, β€œShipley.”

According to Harris County court records, 56-year-old Steven Tyler Swain is accused after surveillance cameras inside the family’s west Houston home allegedly captured inappropriate behavior involving the dog during home renovations.

Authorities say the footage was reportedly discovered by Swain’s wife while reviewing security camera recordings. Court documents state she immediately recognized both her husband and Shipley in the video before turning the evidence over to investigators and removing the dog from the home.

The allegations are so serious that officials have refused to publicly release specific details.

Records show the complaint was filed, after the Houston SPCA and Harris County Precinct 1 investigators became involved. Probable cause was reportedly established the same day, leading to criminal charges and an arrest warrant.

But amid the troubling allegations, one detail has brought relief to animal advocates: Shipley reportedly survived and is now safe.

Animals cannot speak. They cannot tell the world what happens behind closed doors. Cases like this are a powerful reminder that harm can occur in silence β€” until someone steps forward to expose it.
