DOCTORS DOWNPLAYED THE ISSUE, AND BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKE, THE CHILD HAD TO ENDURE A RARE EYE CONDITION AND LOST ONE EYE

After birth, the baby girl was constantly rubbing her eyelid. At the hospital, they told the worried mother it was eczema and told her not to worry. A few months later, the baby’s family made a terrifying discovery. Due to a medical error, the baby suffered immense suffering and lost an eye. Now, the girl’s mother is warning other parents.
Doctors downplayed the baby’s initial alarming symptoms, with dramatic consequences. Katherine O’Neill from the UK was devastated when her daughter Amelia was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

The baby had a red eyelid and was rubbing her eye. Doctors said it was eczema.
Katherine O’Neill (42) noticed that her daughter Amelia was rubbing her left eye after birth. When she reported her symptoms to doctors, she was told not to worry. The newborn also passed a standard eye examination without any issues. The only symptom was a noticeable redness that appeared on the eyelid. The eye otherwise looked normal.
The woman was told by the community nurse to pour breast milk over her eyelid. Doctors, however, told her the redness was most likely eczema, meaning it was nothing serious.

A grandmother accidentally noticed something was wrong with her granddaughter’s eye. The worst was confirmed.
When Amelia was six months old, her grandmother accidentally noticed during dinner that the girl’s eye looked “dead.” According to the Mirror, the child’s mother had not previously noticed anything alarming, but in the light of the kitchen lamps, they could see that the eye was protruding and appeared “dead.”
The terrified family contacted their family doctor, who saw them the same day. After an examination, he determined that the eye was unresponsive, and that the cause could be a cataract or a very rare cancer—retinoblastoma. Unfortunately, a week later, a stage E tumor was diagnosed in the girl’s left eye.

Due to a medical error, the girl lost her eye.
After the diagnosis, Amelia underwent six sessions of chemotherapy. Initially, the tumor shrank, but unfortunately, the cancer began to grow again, meaning she would have to undergo another round of chemotherapy. Not wanting to expose her daughter to further suffering, Katherine made the incredibly difficult decision to remove Amelia’s eye.
She had been through enough, and by then we realized the eye no longer resembled her own, so since she couldn’t see through it, at least with a prosthetic, the cancer would be removed.

It’s been two years since the eye removal. According to Amelia’s mother, the girl has a prosthetic eye and is doing fantastically well. “You honestly wouldn’t notice she only has vision in one eye,” she emphasizes.
