Mysterious Vigilante Dubbed ‘Mexican Batman’ Hunting Down Motorcycle Thieves & Duct Taping Them to Street Poles

A mysterious vigilante in Mexico has earned the nickname “Mexican Batman” after taking justice into his own hands against a surge in motorcycle thefts. In the town of Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, at least five suspected bike thieves have been found bound to lampposts with duct tape in the past two weeks.

Photos circulating on social media show the men strapped tightly to street poles, their mouths taped shut, and the word “ratero” (Spanish for “thief”) scrawled across their foreheads in marker. The vigilante added a personal touch by drawing cat whiskers and moustaches on their faces. Large pink signs were left nearby detailing their alleged crimes, with the stolen motorcycles often placed right beside them as evidence.

Several of the men showed signs of being beaten before being restrained. Authorities emphasize that those found tied up are being treated as victims, and the individuals were freed and given medical attention.

The Batman of Lagos de Moreno

The first incident was reported on June 13. Since then, similar cases have appeared, suggesting the same perpetrator — or possibly a small group — is behind the attacks. State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández confirmed five cases and noted that police have identified two vehicles potentially linked to the vigilante. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities are actively hunting the “wannabe superhero.”

Locals appear divided: some cheer the masked crusader for addressing a crime wave that police have struggled to control, while officials stress that vigilante actions are illegal and dangerous.

The story has gone viral, with many comparing the figure to Batman for his nocturnal hunts and dramatic displays of “justice.”

This comes amid broader security concerns in the Jalisco region, known for cartel violence, though this particular vigilante appears focused solely on motorcycle theft.
