Woman Schedules Hysterectomy After Struggling to Conceive Naturally. Weeks Before Surgery, She Gets Shocking News

Alyssa Fisher, a 30-year-old mother from Houston, Texas, had reached a difficult crossroads in her fertility journey. After years of battling endometriosis, adenomyosis, and PCOS — conditions that caused severe pain, fatigue, and complications with her menstrual cycles — she made the heartbreaking decision to schedule a hysterectomy.
Alyssa and her husband, Breckan Fisher (35), already had a daughter, Olive (now 5), but had faced multiple miscarriages and two chemical pregnancies while trying for a second child. After a full year of trying naturally and consulting a fertility specialist who recommended IVF (an option Alyssa did not want to pursue), the pain from her conditions became overwhelming. From January to August 2025, she struggled to function daily.

“I felt tired and exhausted. I had done every medical and natural remedy I could think of,” Alyssa shared with PEOPLE. “Endometriosis basically took over my everyday life… I couldn’t walk as much, I was very, very fatigued all the time.”
After consulting with a minimally invasive gynecological surgeon, she decided a hysterectomy offered the best chance for relief from her heavy cycles and chronic pain. She mourned the idea of never having another biological child but ultimately found peace with the decision, even hosting a humorous “Girls Gone Feral and Sterile” party to mark the occasion. Her surgery was scheduled for March.
Then, just weeks before the procedure, something miraculous happened. Alyssa noticed her period was late. As a final “hoorah,” she took an old pregnancy test from her drawer — and saw a faint positive line. A digital test confirmed it: she was pregnant.
“I kept looking for the word ‘not,’ and I never did see it. I fell to the ground, I was shaking,” she recalled. “It just seemed like such a shock. I had also finally accepted the fact that I would never have another baby… It felt like too good to be true that I was seeing a miracle unfold in my life.”

Alyssa is now in her second trimester, expecting a baby girl in November 2026. Though the pregnancy has brought challenges like severe morning sickness and dizziness, she views it as a blessing. “God has blessed us with a beautiful baby. I don’t feel like I even deserve this at all,” she said. “Every week since has just been a ‘I can’t believe this is really happening!’”
The family is thrilled — especially big sister Olive. Alyssa says she’s excited for this new chapter and the closure it brings to her long fertility struggle.
Her story is a powerful reminder of hope. Alyssa encourages others facing similar challenges to advocate for themselves, seek second opinions, and remain open to miracles — whether through natural conception, IVF, adoption, or other paths. “Don’t ever discount yourself as one who could receive a miracle. They really do happen every day.”
