Patrick Clancy Testifies Before Jury in Massachusetts Murder Trial

Patrick Clancy took the witness stand in the Massachusetts murder trial of his former wife, Lindsay Clancy, delivering emotional testimony as jurors heard firsthand about the day their three young children died and the devastating impact the tragedy has had on his life.

During his testimony, Patrick described the family’s routine on January 24, 2023, explaining that he left their Duxbury home after Lindsay asked him to pick up takeout food and prescription medication. He told jurors that nothing about her behavior before he left suggested the events that would soon unfold.

Patrick testified that when he returned home, the house was unusually quiet. He discovered Lindsay outside after she had fallen from a window in an apparent suicide attempt. After speaking with her, he entered the home and found the couple’s three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—unresponsive in the basement. His emotional testimony was followed by the playing of his frantic 911 call for the jury.

Jurors also heard Patrick discuss Lindsay’s mental health in the months leading up to the tragedy. He testified that she had received psychiatric treatment, had spoken about intrusive thoughts, and had been prescribed multiple medications. He also recalled conversations after the incident in which she described hearing a voice telling her she had only a brief opportunity to act—testimony that is central to the defense’s claim that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis.

Prosecutors contend that Lindsay Clancy intentionally killed the children and carefully planned the events by sending Patrick out of the house. They argue that she understood the nature of her actions and should be held criminally responsible. The defense, however, maintains that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and was unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of her conduct at the time.

Patrick’s testimony marked one of the most emotional moments of the trial, with the courtroom remaining silent as he recounted discovering his children and the lasting grief that has followed. His account provided jurors with a detailed timeline of the day while also highlighting the profound personal loss at the center of the case.
