For nearly two years, Jill and her family dreamed of one unforgettable moment — seeing their daughters resting peacefully in separate beds.

On January 13, that dream finally became reality.

Conjoined twin sisters Anna Grace and Hope Elizabeth Richards were successfully separated during a highly complex operation at Texas Children’s Hospital, marking the beginning of a brand-new chapter in their extraordinary journey.

“We’ve thought about and prayed for this day for almost two years,” their mother, Jill Richards, shared before the procedure.

Hours later, her family received the answer they had been hoping for.

“It’s an indescribable feeling to look at our girls in two separate beds,” she said. “We couldn’t be more thankful to the entire team at Texas Children’s for making this dream come true.”

Anna Grace and Hope Elizabeth entered the world on December 29, arriving by Cesarean section at 35 weeks of pregnancy. Together, they weighed just 9 pounds, 12 ounces.

The sisters were joined at the chest and abdomen and shared a large blood vessel connecting their hearts, making their condition especially complex and requiring months of careful planning before separation could even be considered.

Long before the final surgery, doctors had already begun preparing the girls for one of the biggest moments of their lives.

On November 6, the twins underwent an earlier procedure to place tissue expanders beneath their skin. The expanders allowed their skin to gradually stretch, giving surgeons enough healthy tissue to safely close both girls’ bodies after they were separated.

When the day finally arrived, nearly 75 medical specialists — including surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, and experts from eight different specialties — came together for the carefully choreographed operation.

After seven intense hours in the operating room, the team achieved the outcome everyone had been working toward.

“The success of this incredibly complex surgery was the result of our dedicated team members’ hard work throughout the last year,” said Dr. Larry Hollier, Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital.

“Through simulations and countless planning meetings, we were able to prepare for situations that could arise during the separation. We are thrilled with the outcome and look forward to continuing to care for Anna and Hope as they recover.”

For Jill and her family, the medical achievement meant far more than a successful procedure.

It meant seeing each daughter lying peacefully in her own bed for the very first time.

After months of preparation, countless hours of planning, and the unwavering dedication of an entire medical team, Anna Grace and Hope now begin life as two remarkable little girls with their own paths ahead.

Their recovery continues, but their family says they are filled with gratitude, hope, and excitement for the future — one they had imagined for so long and can now finally embrace together.
