A shooting at a Virginia State University dormitory in Ettrick, Virginia, left five people injured early Saturday morning, August 15, 2026.

The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Five people were wounded, including a 21-year-old victim who remains in critical condition. Authorities said only one of the injured individuals was a VSU student.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia. Harris is not a student at Virginia State University.

Authorities arrested Harris at approximately 4 p.m., more than 14 hours after the shooting. Police reportedly found him hiding inside a closet in Seward Hall, an on-campus residence hall.

Harris faces four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting, and a motive has not been released.

The incident has raised concerns across the VSU community as authorities continue investigating how the suspect entered the residence hall and what happened in the moments leading up to the gunfire.

The charges against Harris are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
