Honoring Ryne Cooper: The Tragic Loss of a Dedicated Lineman, Loving Husband, and Father
On August 11, the utility community and a loving family suffered a devastating blow when Ryne Cooper, known affectionately to his friends and colleagues as “Niko,” lost his life in the line of duty. A proud member of IBEW Local 66, Ryne was performing high-voltage electrical repair work during a critical power restoration project when a tragic workplace accident occurred. Journeyman linemen like Ryne face immense physical dangers every single day, working in extreme conditions high above the ground to keep power running for communities. Yet, beyond the dangerous nature of his profession, Ryne was above all else the heart and soul of his family.

He leaves behind his grieving wife, Macy Rae, and their two young sons, Reed and Rory, who must now navigate life without their father. His sister-in-law, Kelsie, remembered him as a deeply loving husband, a devoted father, and one of her favorite people on this planet. Those who worked alongside him knew his unwavering work ethic and warm presence. Now, his brothers in the trade, loved ones, and community members are rallying around Macy and the boys to provide strength, comfort, and financial support during this unimaginable time of sorrow.

Dangerous utility jobs serve as a stark reminder of the sacrifice made by those who step up to repair our essential infrastructure. Please keep Macy, Reed, Rory, Kelsie, and the entire Cooper family in your thoughts as they honor Ryne’s memory. Rest easy, Ryne.
