The Unbroken Spirit of Kaileen: A Toddler’s Brave Fight Against Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease

When I was just two months old, a severe infection developed around the site of my peritoneal dialysis catheter, throwing my life into immediate jeopardy. Medical teams had no choice but to perform delicate abdominal punctures to manually drain the accumulating fluid, a terrifying procedure carrying a constant risk of accidental organ perforation. Those tense weeks were filled with intense fear and heartache for my parents as they watched their tiny newborn endure unimaginable pain. Through sheer resilience and grace, I pulled through that critical crisis and was remarkably able to discontinue peritoneal dialysis shortly thereafter.

However, that frightening moment was only the opening chapter of a long journey I have faced since the day I was born. Today, I continue my daily battle against Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease, holding tightly to one ultimate dream: securing a life-saving kidney transplant. Living with advanced kidney failure requires constant medical monitoring, strength, and unwavering hope, but my family and I face every obstacle together.
