Former Wisconsin Badgers Tight End Jack Pugh’s Cause of Death Revealed

Jack Pugh, a former tight end for the Wisconsin Badgers, died on March 30, 2026, at the age of 24.

At the time of his death, Pugh’s cause of death had not been publicly disclosed. A newly released report from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office has now provided additional information.

According to the report, Pugh died from acute bronchopneumonia, a serious infection and inflammation affecting the lungs.

The report also indicated that the condition was associated with cardiomyopathy, a disease affecting the heart muscle. It additionally noted hepatosplenomegaly, meaning an enlargement of both the liver and spleen.

When news of Pugh’s death emerged in March, reports confirmed only that the former college football player had died at 24, leaving the circumstances surrounding his death undisclosed.

The newly released coroner’s findings now provide the first official explanation of the medical conditions that contributed to his death.
