Family of 6-Year-Old Girl Killed in Freak Badminton Accident Sues Racket Maker

Family of 6-Year-Old Lucy Morgan Sues Franklin Sports After Fatal Badminton Accident

Lucy Morgan, a 6-year-old girl from New Jersey, died following a tragic badminton accident in Maine on June 1, 2024.

According to the family’s lawsuit, Lucy was near her 10-year-old brother while he was playing badminton when the racket’s aluminum shaft reportedly detached from its wooden handle.

The exposed metal end struck Lucy in the head and pierced her skull, causing severe injuries. She was rushed to a hospital but died four days later.

Lucy’s family has now filed a lawsuit against Franklin Sports, the manufacturer of the badminton racket.

The lawsuit alleges that the product contained design and manufacturing defects and lacked adequate safety measures that could have prevented the shaft from separating from the handle.

The family is seeking accountability from the manufacturer and argues that the fatal incident could have been prevented if the racket had been properly designed, manufactured, and tested.

The allegations in the lawsuit have not been proven in court, and Franklin Sports will have the opportunity to respond to the claims through the legal process.

The case highlights the potential dangers of equipment failures involving sporting goods, particularly when a component breaks or separates unexpectedly.
