SHE THOUGHT SHE HAD DROPPED HER GRANDDAUGHTER OFF — HOURS LATER, A FAMILY’S WORLD COLLAPSED

Ten-month-old Scottie Gwyn Crowell was supposed to spend August 13 at daycare.

Instead, according to Madisonville police, she remained strapped into her car seat for roughly eight hours while her grandmother went to work.

By the time anyone realized what had happened, it was too late.

THE DAY BEGAN LIKE ANY OTHER

Scottie’s grandmother, Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, 61, had picked her up that morning.

She was supposed to take the baby to daycare before heading to her job as a physician at Owensboro Health Multicare in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Police say Fazenbaker arrived at work around 8 a.m.

But she had forgotten that Scottie was still in the vehicle.

The baby remained inside the parked car until roughly 4 p.m.

THE DISCOVERY CAME TOO LATE

Scottie’s father later went to daycare to pick up his daughter and was told she had never arrived.

The family then realized something was terribly wrong.

Scottie’s mother contacted Fazenbaker.

According to police, the grandmother ran outside with coworkers and found the baby still inside the vehicle.

Emergency responders immediately attempted lifesaving measures.

But Scottie could not be revived.

Temperatures in Madisonville reached approximately 95°F that day, while the temperature inside the vehicle reportedly climbed as high as 115°F.

NOW, INVESTIGATORS ARE ASKING HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED

Police conducted a blood test on Fazenbaker as part of the investigation but said they did not suspect intoxication.

An autopsy has been completed, but officials said the final results could take several weeks.

As of August 20, no charges have been filed.

Investigators are expected to present the completed case to a grand jury after the investigation concludes.

A BABY WHO WAS DEEPLY LOVED

Scottie was only 10 months old.

She was born in September 2025 through IVF and was the second child of her parents.

Her family is now left trying to comprehend how a routine morning could end with the loss of their baby girl.

There are questions investigators still need to answer.

But one fact is already devastating:

Scottie was supposed to be dropped off at daycare that morning.

Instead, she never made it there.

And by the time her family realized she was still in the car, the opportunity to save her was gone.

Police have not filed charges against Stacey Fazenbaker as of the latest reports. The investigation, autopsy and grand-jury review remain pending. Authorities have described the incident as an accidental failure to remember the child was in the vehicle; there is currently no verified evidence that Scottie was intentionally left to die.
