OHIO TEEN ACCUSED OF ORCHESTRATING HER MOTHER’S KILLING — TEXTS ALLEGEDLY REVEAL A PREMEDITATED PLAN

An 18-year-old Ohio woman is facing a murder charge after investigators alleged that she helped orchestrate the killing of her own mother — a case made even more striking by the victim’s own academic work on adolescent homicide.

Bryanna Dutcher is accused in connection with the Aug. 14 killing of her mother, Tamela D. Dutcher, at the family’s home in Delaware, Ohio.

Two other people — Dutcher’s 20-year-old boyfriend Christian Evans and his 21-year-old roommate Dajameous Payne — have also been charged in the case.

INVESTIGATORS ALLEGE THE KILLING WAS PLANNED

Authorities allege the three suspects planned the killing before Tamela was fatally shot shortly after midnight.

According to PEOPLE’s report, investigators say text messages recovered during the investigation point toward premeditation.

The alleged motive reportedly centered in part on conflict between Bryanna and her mother, including disagreements over household cleaning.

Bryanna has denied involvement in planning the killing.

A DISTURBING CONNECTION TO HER MOTHER’S RESEARCH

Perhaps the most striking detail is something Tamela had written about more than two decades ago.

In 2002, she co-authored an academic paper examining adolescent homicide.

The research discussed patterns among young offenders and warned that female adolescent offenders could sometimes target family members, while emphasizing the importance of early intervention.

More than 20 years later, Tamela herself became the victim in a case involving her teenage daughter.

ANOTHER CLAIM INVESTIGATORS ARE EXAMINING

Authorities have also noted allegations involving racial tension within the family.

According to the report, Bryanna claimed that her parents disapproved of her relationship with Evans because of his race.

That claim is part of the broader investigation into what may have led to the alleged plan.

ALL THREE SUSPECTS REMAIN ACCUSED

Bryanna, Evans and Payne have all been charged with murder.

They are reportedly under house arrest with GPS monitoring and each has a $300,000 bond.

The charges are allegations, and the defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
