BRIT, 34, DIES AFTER JUMPING FROM BOAT IN ZANTE — FIANCÉE REVEALS FRIEND’S DESPERATE FIGHT TO SAVE HIM

A dream holiday in Zante, Greece, has ended in tragedy for a British man who had only recently become engaged to his partner of 11 years.

Cameron William Wallace, 34, from Exeter, was on a turtle-spotting trip near the island of Marathonisi on Tuesday when he jumped into the sea from a rented boat.

Minutes later, another boater reportedly spotted Cameron face-down in the water and alerted his friend, Steve Pittman.

A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO SAVE HIM

Steve immediately called for help as he and others pulled Cameron from the water and began performing CPR.

According to reports, Cameron was initially breathing but became unresponsive shortly afterward.

A Coast Guard patrol boat arrived and transported him toward an ambulance, but Cameron was pronounced dead after arriving at Zakynthos General Hospital.

The official cause of death has not yet been established, with forensic examinations still ongoing.

His fiancée, Silvana Bernardes, 34, said the couple had been together for 11 years and had only recently become engaged.

They had already begun planning their wedding.

“IT REALLY HASN’T SUNK IN YET”

Silvana said Cameron had travelled to Zante with his friend after recently losing his job following a decade of running his own electrical-engineering business.

The trip was supposed to give him an opportunity to relax and take his mind off his worries.

Instead, she received a devastating phone call early Wednesday morning telling her something had gone terribly wrong.

Silvana also said Steve had been left feeling guilty over what happened — but she has repeatedly told him that he did everything he could to help Cameron.

“Everyone tried their best to help him.”

A FUTURE THAT HAD JUST BEGUN

Cameron had been expected to return home this weekend.

Instead, his family is now waiting for answers about what caused his sudden death.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting the family and remains in contact with local authorities.

HE WENT TO ZANTE FOR A FEW DAYS OF FUN.

HE HAD JUST PROPOSED TO THE WOMAN HE LOVED.

AND WITHIN MINUTES OF JUMPING INTO THE SEA, EVERYTHING CHANGED.
