Christine McGuinness Reportedly “Relieved” as Paddy Moves On — and Sees His New Romance as a Fresh Start for Their Family

Four years after Christine and Paddy McGuinness announced the end of their marriage, their relationship appears to be entering another important chapter.
Paddy has reportedly found romance again, this time with BBC Radio 2 publicist Emma Carey. But rather than feeling hurt by seeing her former husband move forward, Christine is said to be welcoming the change.
For the 38-year-old television personality, Paddy finding happiness could make it easier for everyone to embrace a future in which they remain connected as parents without being tied to the past as a couple.
A source familiar with Christine’s feelings said she is not distressed by Paddy’s reported relationship. Instead, she is said to feel a sense of relief and believes their marriage is firmly behind them.
“She’s happy he’s in love,” the source said, adding that Christine believes Paddy being happy could ultimately contribute to a happier family dynamic.
Paddy Appears to Have Found Someone New
The attention surrounding the former couple intensified after Paddy, 52, was linked to Emma, who works in publicity at BBC Radio 2.
Paddy also has a professional connection to the station through his radio work, and reports of the pair’s relationship emerged after they were seen spending time together in London.
They were reportedly spotted during several outings, including an evening involving the five-star Rosewood Hotel. Their appearance together quickly fueled speculation that Paddy had finally entered his first significant public romance since his marriage ended.
For Christine, however, the development does not appear to represent competition or a reason to revisit old wounds.
According to the source, she wants to continue moving forward herself and does not see reconciliation with Paddy as part of that future.
The message was emphatic: their romantic relationship is finished, and there is “no way back.”
That distinction matters because Christine and Paddy have never followed the most conventional path after separation.
Their Marriage Ended, but Their Family Did Not
Christine and Paddy announced their separation in 2022 after more than a decade of marriage.
They share three children — twins Leo and Penelope and younger daughter Felicity — and their responsibilities as parents continued long after their relationship as husband and wife came to an end.
Instead of immediately creating two completely separate households, they continued sharing their family home in Cheshire.
The arrangement has allowed them to maintain consistency for their children while adjusting to a very different relationship with each other.
Their three children are autistic, as is Christine, and preserving stability has repeatedly been central to the way the former couple has approached family life.
That has created an unusual situation: two people who have emotionally separated while still sharing many of the routines associated with being a family.
As both begin developing independent romantic lives, those boundaries become even more important.
Christine and Paddy Set Rules for Dating After Their Split
Christine has previously explained that she and Paddy actually discussed how they would handle new relationships.
Early after their separation, they considered questions that many former couples eventually have to confront: How much should they tell each other? What would they want to know? And how would they avoid being blindsided by something becoming public?
But with time, Christine said the need for those updates faded.
After several years apart, she no longer believes she needs details about Paddy’s romantic life, just as he does not need details about hers.
What happens romantically can remain separate from what happens inside their shared family environment.
“It just stays outside the home,” she explained of their approach.
That boundary may help explain why reports of Paddy’s new relationship are being viewed less like an emotional shock and more like an expected next stage.
They may still be parents under the same roof, but that does not mean they are waiting for each other.
Christine Has Been Moving Forward Too
Christine has also been increasingly open about her own romantic future.
Since separating from Paddy, she has spoken publicly about dating women and about feeling more comfortable acknowledging that part of her life.
She has explained that her attraction to women was never something unknown to those closest to her. Paddy and her family were aware that she had dated both men and women before her marriage.
What changed after the split was the level of public attention surrounding her relationships.
Eventually, Christine decided she did not want speculation to dictate how she lived.
She has since spoken openly about loving and dating women, and has even said that she would like to have a wife one day — not necessarily through another legal marriage, but through a committed relationship and a celebration of love.
At the same time, she has acknowledged how complicated building a serious relationship can be while continuing to share a home with her former husband and protecting the routines of their children.
A Future With More Independence
Christine has also considered what a more independent setup could eventually look like.
Rather than immediately abandoning the family home that has provided continuity for the children, she and Paddy have discussed the possibility of maintaining that base while having additional spaces of their own.
For Christine, whose work regularly brings her to London, that could mean having a small apartment in the city.
She has playfully imagined becoming a “Sex and the City girl” while in London — enjoying a separate adult life before returning to the home and family that remain at the center of her priorities.
It reflects the balancing act that has defined much of Christine and Paddy’s post-marriage relationship.
Their lives remain connected, but they are no longer moving in the same direction romantically.
Paddy’s Happiness Could Make Moving On Easier
That is why Paddy’s reported romance may represent something more significant than simply seeing an ex with somebody new.
For Christine, according to those close to the situation, his happiness may make the transition clearer.
If Paddy has found someone who makes him happy and Christine is free to build the kind of relationship she wants, their family does not necessarily have to lose the closeness and cooperation they have maintained as parents.
Their marriage can remain in the past without erasing everything they built together.
Christine appears determined to separate those two ideas: Paddy can still be an important part of her family without being her partner.
And if the reports surrounding his new romance signal that he is ready to embrace that distinction too, Christine reportedly sees little reason to look backward.
Instead, his new relationship could be another sign that both of them are finally creating lives beyond their marriage — while continuing to meet in the place that still matters most to them: their family.
